“At the Louisville Slugger Museum”
“Wow! The World's Biggest Bat! Made of steel, it weighs 68,000 pounds and stands 120-feet tall. The Big Bat is an exact-scale replica of Babe Ruth's 34-inch Louisville Slugger. Bud Hillerich's signature is on the Big Bat, a tribute to the man who turned the company's first bat.” Part of the Louisville Slugger Museum.
We really enjoyed this tour! The museum is open till 8pm on Thursdays with free parking and half price tickets($6 each). The tour is only 30 min long, so it won't hold up your travels too much. The kids enjoyed it. FYI, they don't allow pictures on the tour--Slugworth might be looking for the Everlasting Gobstopper ;-)
We loved the museum, tour, and bat. Lousiville is a great littel city.
I didn't end up having time to actually stop inside the museum, but it was still cool walking around outside as a break. The street it's on - Main Street- is actually quite nice and it's worth walking around a few blocks - lots of outdoor art installations etc.
As would be expected, this is a cool stop, especially if you are a baseball fan. You get to see just how bats are made, look and hold famous bats, and hear about the history of the company in WWII. Glad we came.
Fun little stop, it’s a photo opportunity and stretch your legs:)
Definitely worth the stop!
We stopped to take a picture with the massive bat! Very impressive!
We look forward to seeing the world’s largest in every trip we take. Glad we were able to stop on the 4 of July (the area was isolated)
Worth the two hours spent going through the museum and taking the tour. Learned so much! The surrounding are was quite nice as well.
I'm not a huge baseball fan, but this was a worth while stop for a photo op. There's a tour of the place, which I did not take, but I did go into the gift shop, & it was not badly priced
