“Final resting place of Colonel Sanders”
Cave Hill Cemetery is a 296-acre (1.20 km2) Victorian era National Cemetery and arboretum located at 701 Baxter Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky. It is open daily to the public from 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM (weather permitting). Its main entrance is on Baxter Avenue and there is a secondary one on Grinstead Drive. Both former Louisville mayors for whom these streets are named (James F. Grinstead and John G. Baxter), are buried in Cave Hill Cemetery. It is the largest cemetery by area and number of burials in Louisville.
Cave Hill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Cave Hill National Cemetery, containing military graves, is also on the National Register, added in 1998. This is also the final resting place of Colonel Sanders.
We went to stretch our legs on a road trip and coupled it with driving through Old Louisville (the historic district). The cemetery's worth seeing if you usually enjoy seeing these types of stops. I took a long time taking in all of the soldiers' graves from the Civil War going forward. It's beautifully maintained there but still radiates a powerful history. Easy to enter, we just waved to the guard parked in a vehicle at the entrance.
Cave Hill Cemetery is truly remarkable and well worth going out of one's way to visit!

KFC DAY
This place was pretty cool, actually. My first choice wouldn't be to drive through a cemetery as a tourist attraction, but I'm glad we went through. Beautiful, gothic architecture of the headstones and a foggy spring morning made it really picturesque. One of the highlights of the trip as far as photo ops go. Finding Colonel Sanders' grave was really just a bonus to an already interesting place.
Sucha a beautiful and interesting place. Do not miss seeing the interesting statures and memorials. Stop and ask for a map at the entrance!
This was a really interesting and beautiful place to take a walk! We stopped into the office and the people in there were super friendly and helpful! They gave us a map and showed us where some of the best monuments and most famous people were buried. And the section with all of the Civil War soldiers was very moving.
