Clairmont Farm is a family owned lavender farm located in the Santa Ynez Valley in Los Olivos. There are five acres of the Grosso variety lavender, known for its healing quality. The fields are breathtakingly beautiful with the backdrop of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Three hundred year old oak trees dot the grounds. Filmmakers, photographers and painters arrive each year and apply their craft. The driveway is lined with olive trees that were planted by the Spanish Missionaries over 175 years ago. Our farm is entirely organic. We harvest both with the traditional method of cutting each plant by hand, banding, and hanging the bunches, and also with a tea plucking machine from Japan. The mechanized cut is sun dried, thrashed, sifted and steam distilled in copper here on the farm. The resulting oil is organic, highly concentrated, and sweet because it has been made with low temperature in copper (see "distill process" on the "lavender info page for more information. Used for centuries, lavender is the best-known herb for its medicinal and healing properties. Many other species of lavender grow on the farm. Organic culinary lavender is also offered.
This place was a little bit of a disappointment. The whole property is one small field, and one small shed where they sell all the lavender products. Unless you go for a very short period during the summer (from Mid July to Mid August, the owner told me) the Lavender fields do not look purple the way they do in the promo pictures.
The drive to Clairmont Farms is amazingly beautiful if you are coming from the South. The views on CA-154 through Los Padres national Forest are stunning.
The property is also less then 15 minutes away from "Little Denmark."
