“learn about Los Alamos & the Manhattan Project”
Approximately 40 interactive exhibits trace the history of the WWII Manhattan Project, highlight the Laboratory's current and historic research projects related to defense and technology, and focus on Laboratory research related to national and international economic, environmental, political, and social concerns. These exhibits together with extensive educational and community programs draw nearly 80,000 visitors a year. The Bradbury Science Museum is the chief public facility of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, located at 1350 Central Avenue in Los Alamos, New Mexico, in the United States. It was founded in 1963, and was named for the Laboratory's second director (1945-1970), Norris E. Bradbury.
Very informative museum with lots of great artifacts. Covers both the Manhattan Project, weapons, and nuclear energy itself.
This is a place to bring children of say 10 and older, to learn a history of WW2.
Two movie theaters and a lot of information about the Manhattan Project.
We spent about 3 hours there and everything was free. I even learnt a few things.
My B Class had no problem parking. I believe there are places within walking distance for bigger units.
There is local tours available, as well as other informative things that goes on there.
Visiting Santa Fe, less than an hour away.
Wonderful interactive museum. Of course it covers the Manhattan Project, but also many of the current activities at Los Alamos such as biofuels, nanotechnology and the Webb telescope
Wish we had had more time!
If you're into science you'll love this place. It's super nerdy, but in the best way possible. You'll learn about nuclear physics, the Manhattan Project, the history of nuclear weapons and the study of nuclear energy. Though the museum is small, it packs quite a punch.
DON'T MISS: The personal testimonies from people in Los Alamos, and the genetics tests. And in summers they often have activities for kids.
