“Hunt the elusive grassman”
The landscape of rural Guernsey County appears as a patchwork of forested hills, open meadows and misty valleys threaded by numerous streams. At the heart of this region is Salt Fork State Park, encompassing the woodlands and fields flanking Salt Fork Reservoir. As Ohio's largest state park, Salt Fork boasts 17,229-acres of recreational facilities to suit nearly every taste. Historically, this part of southeastern Ohio was one of the first areas of the state to be settled by the pioneers emigrating westward from the crowded eastern seaboard. Some of these settlers may have followed Zane's Trace into the Ohio wilderness -- a route that led a few families into the Guernsey County area. From Zanesville east to the Ohio River, the Trace became part of the National Road, a major east-west transportation route constructed in 1811. Today, the old National Road is known as U.S. Route 40 and passes near Salt Fork State Park.

Confirmed by 6 users | Last reported on September 13, 2022This park has lots of hiking trails and several marinas where you can launch your boat. We were here in October; hovever the leaf color was rather dull due to very little rain this year. The site, C14, had full hook ups, and was paved. Lots of room between the sites. The bathrooms were clean and there were at least 8 shower stalls. Laundry facilities were in the bathrooms, $2/per load washer and dryer. Small store at the check in station which is open until 5:00PM. The campground is open year round, but the water is turned off at the sites. The campground is very popular during the summer and reservations are recommended.

We decided to try this campground since it is in the largest state park in Ohio. There are lots of trails, lots of sites and lots of room to roam. We stayed in the C loop because we wanted full hookups and that's what we found, although other loops have some full hookup sites as well. The sites are a bit close, and some offer full sun, some mostly shade, and a mix of the two. The shower houses are nice and quite large, (the one on C loop has 9 shower stalls.) This state park has a LOT of amenities with a large lodge and several small cabins to rent. There is a private beach for campground guests only, as well as a boat dock and boat launch. We had pretty good cell phone signals, good enough to use the internet on our phones. The only big negative was the stinkbugs! They were too numerous for our liking. LOL Of course, there isn't much you can do about that. Our cost was 50% off due to our Golden Buckeye Card, and we were very pleased with $18.50 per night for full hookups.

We stayed over Easter weekend and had a blast. Our site was a large site but backed up to a trail opening, so we had people walking through our site the whole time. Great hiking up and down the hills. Campground has large bathhouses that were kept clean all weekend.

Salt Fork State Park Campground located in east central Ohio is a big rig friendly campground that comes with complimentary access to a boat ramp and dock. Enjoyed an extended weekend here with my brother. Cruising the expansive lake to the tunes of Pink Floyd was relaxing. Verizon cell service clocked in at 65.4 Mbps download speed and 5.35 Mbps upload speed. AT&T clocked in at 21.4 Mbps download speed and 12.8 Mbps upload speed.

We had a spacious level site. The bathhouse was large, but it was clean and never crowded. We enjoyed the hiking trails very much, and it was fun to relax at the beach that was for campers only.

We live about 3.5 hours away and make the at least one trip a year to this campground. Most the sites have lots of space. You don't feel like you are on top of the neighbor. There are some full hook up sites but they fill up quickly. I can't tell you how the campground is on the weekends cause we stay Sunday to Friday. It is quiet campground and dark at night. I can't tell you how the shower house is since my camper is self contained. Located on the lake but none of the sites are waterfront. There is boat ramp and beach just for the campground. Located about 11 miles off the interstate. Helpful hint if coming from the east heading west. Go to I-77 to exit 47. GPS will take you down some narrow hilly roads. It is about 11 miles further but won't have a rough ride. If you have a telescope this would be the campground to use it at.

We enjoyed our time at Salt Fork! Site F6 required a little leveling but G46 was level. The park is huge with a marina, lodge, hiking trails, equestrian trails, 5 spacious campgrounds and an expansive lake.

This park is very well groomed and most of the trails within the park had been cleared of vegetation so there was no fighting through the weeds. There are a number of good hikes within the park. We were there Columbus weekend and it was hopping but everyone quieted by 10.

We stayed two nights in this park in late October. Was by far the most quiet of the state parks for us by far. We were tucked down in a swale up against the woods. We loved it. Great weather on Saturday for a nice hike on the Shadbrush Trail. Even as late as it was, though, our pup still got a couple ticks to add to my one. Beautiful scenery!
We will stay here again.

The camping area are grassy and surrounded by tree. The pads are asphalt and our site was unloved but provided good spacing between sites. The weather in early October was moderate with the feeling fall was in the air. Our site was electric only but a dump station was available on site.
Camping fees are $29 for week nights and $30 for weekends.
