Kreuz Market (pronounced “Krites”) prides itself on concentrating on the quality of its barbecue and sausage. Charles Kreuz Sr. started Kreuz Market in 1900 as a meat market and grocery store in Lockhart, Texas. Refrigeration was not very good at turn of the century and no one wanted to throw away good quality meat. So Kreuz began to barbecue and smoke meats and sausage out of the fresh cuts that had not sold.
This joint has been a Texas institution for the past 75 years or so. Famous for its sauceless barbeque, it gets raves for its pork chop, its sausage, and its ribs.
Kreuz Embodies all that is the Texas BBQ spirit! Loved the food and the original messy approach to eating BBQ
