“One of the oldest restaurants along Route 66”
The Ariston Cafe was founded by Pete Adam, a Greek immigrant, in Carlinville, Illinois in 1924. The original cafe was located on Route 4, the predecessor of Historic Route 66. In 1929, the Cafe was relocated to Litchfield, Illinois and moved into its present location on Route 66 in 1935. We believe the Ariston Cafe to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest restaurant on Route 66. In 1992, The Ariston Cafe and the Adam family were inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame. Since 1966, Pete’s son Nick and Nick’s wife, Demi, have continued to offer the traditional service expected of a family-owned and operated restaurant. Paul, eldest son of Demi and Nick, and his wife, Joy, joined the family business in 2004. All involved in bringing great food and service to your table welcome you to Litchfield and invite you to share our history with us.
If you're in the mood for good home cooked food, the Ariston Cafe is what you're looking for. They've maintained the vintage feel of this Route 66 establishment, and the waitstaff super sweet.
You can't drive Route 66 in Illinois and not stop by the Ariston Cafe. The Adam family will treat you right and fill you up! The vintage feel of the exterior and the history both combine to make the experience just as great as the food.
Not open on Mondays :(
Great spot. Wife and I stopped in for lunch while passing thru. Good food, great service. Definitely would stop here again.
I can’t rate it b/c it’s closed on a Monday (as others said too). Good for some pics and the welcome centre across the road is great for 66’ers. Jubelts next door was a great alternative.
Neat place to see. Food was ok. But dessert?? 😍😍😍. AMAZING!
Closed Mondays AND Tuesdays. So trying Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant next door instead.
Timed perfectly for lunch!! Great food and great service!! The dessert was excellent!!!
Lovely stop for our late dinner. Service was so warm and friendly and the desserts were to die for. Good place to stop!
