“The perfect park on the east bank of the Tennessee River”
Tradition has it that Mousetail Landing received its name during the Civil War period when one of the area’s tanning companies caught fire. The exodus of mice fleeing the burning tannery was so profuse that the area in proximity of the park became known as Mousetail Landing. Fishing is permitted anywhere you can reach water. Bass, bream, crappie, stripe and catfish can be caught along the banks. The park has one day-use, three-mile trail. There is one overnight, eight-mile trail with two screened shelters. These back-country shelters have plywood bunks and each shelter sleeps eight people. Mousetail Landing State Park has 25 picnic tables with grills located throughout the park. There is one large pavilion that can accommodate 100 people available for rent along with a gazebo that is a often used for weddings. Also located within the park are several archeological ruins, including the original landing pier, a blacksmith shop, and a cemetery.

The Park Rangers are great and the facilities are clean. We have camped on the primitive side for years. Easy access to the Tenn River and a beautiful site to wake up and watch the sunrise.
A perfect find late in the day after touring the Oliver Trailer plant in Hohenwald, TN a few miles east. Access to the park is off a twisting very narrow hilly asphalt backroad from the highway. You see samples of Appalachian rural poverty. The Park entrance is newly paved, narrow and twisting with a very steep hill up to the c/g for RV campers.
Sites are laid out well, several pull troughs, water and electric and wonderful views. It is a pleasant place to stay.
Fee was strange, billed full amount, then discounted for being a Sr. then added a $5 reservation fee when we just dropped in. The only other camper there was in a tent. "Sorry, that's the way we charge." The last TN SP gave the discount and was almost at capacity in electric sites and they was no reservation fee and we spent 4 nights there.
I guess the privatizers with Reserve America get their bucket of blood no matter what part they play.

I stayed here in mid March waiting out the winter farther north. I did not make reservations, but I did call first and talked to the campground personnel to verify availability. There is a VERY steep hill driving up to the RV campground area from the check-in area, but the gravel site was easily to access and relatively level. I stayed in a handicap site next to the bath house/laundry area. My site was not a pull through and I couldn't tell if there were any in the area. The park did get a little more active over the weekend, but very nothing loud or rowdy. Laundry was $2.75 a load total for wash/dry and was nice big front load machine. I could easily wash my bedding. The dump station was a little farther up the hill and a rather sharp turn, but I got in with my 24 foot coach and trailer fairly easily and the site was sloped well. The rinse water connection was not working, but that may have been due to the time of the year. All the sites had water/electric, nice tables, lamp posts and campfire rings.

The campground is a little hard to get to. I had two GPSs and going west from Linden, Tennessee, both took me off the main highway via a winding one car road. The main entrance is actual a couple of miles west. Checked in at the main office and was directed to my site. It’s on of the few if only pull thru. The bathhouse was clean and the laundry room was also located there. The rv campground is on top of a steep mountain climb so if you want to go to the lake or other areas within the park you need to drive or walk up and down steep roads. ATT reception was good enough to stream video as was Verizon. Site had 30 and 50 amp plus water. Only one dump station but once you are there it’s easy to dump and has water for flushing
