“with over 100 vehicles including helicopter, tanks, halftracks, & ambulances”
Welcome to the Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles (HMMV), a non-profit organization run by volunteers and funded by donations and grants. The museum has about 100 vehicles including helicopters, tanks, halftracks, ambulances, and a jeep from every branch of the service plus displays of weapons, uniforms, engines, equipment, and more. The everyday necessities of a soldier's life, such as MREs, blend with unique vehicles like those used by the German army in World War II. This hands-on museum invites you to see, touch, and even sit in vehicles that have been restored and, for the most part, are operational. Vehicles date from World War II but displays include items from World War I as well.
I stopped here specifically for my 12 year old son, but I was fascinated as well. You could spend hours here, though we spent about 1 hour. Lots and lots of military vehicles. You can get inside a tank, a helicopter, and a few others. Lots of displays of actual uniforms, equipment and rations. Right off the interstate, actually visible from it.
Was already closed at 3 pm. It looked very cool but they were not open even though the hours said it was.
Excellent stop for all interested. We brought our 4 kids and they were astounded at everything they have to see!
Kids had a fantastic time! So much to see and learn about. Donations made the visit affordable for a large family. Great gift shop.
This was such a fun stop! It’s really big with tons to see & even a tank you can go in. They have a huge display of the MASH set which was an unexpected surprise. The volunteers were nice, it’s by donation so make sure to leave something! We also let the kids pick out small souvenirs. There were no dirt roads and plenty of space to park our class a and tow vehicle so not sure what the route warning was about.
Closed at 1 for some reason.
Great stop along the road trip: close to highway, plenty of stores nearby.
Awesome stop, tons of vehicles and tanks to check out. We even got to go inside a tank!
Closed at 4pm locked up tight. Sign on gate says open till 5pm.
Friendly and welcoming staff with a wide array of items large and small covering every major conflict in modern history. Knowing the staff is all volunteer makes their hospitality and friendliness even better. A truly great hidden gem worth the visit. Remember to bring cash for a donation as they thrive off donations and it’s totally worth supporting their efforts.
