“with over 100 vehicles including helicopter, tanks, halftracks, & ambulances”

Welcome to the Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles (HMMV), a non-profit organization run by volunteers and funded by donations and grants. The museum has about 100 vehicles including helicopters, tanks, halftracks, ambulances, and a jeep from every branch of the service plus displays of weapons, uniforms, engines, equipment, and more. The everyday necessities of a soldier's life, such as MREs, blend with unique vehicles like those used by the German army in World War II. This hands-on museum invites you to see, touch, and even sit in vehicles that have been restored and, for the most part, are operational. Vehicles date from World War II but displays include items from World War I as well.

I stopped here specifically for my 12 year old son, but I was fascinated as well. You could spend hours here, though we spent about 1 hour. Lots and lots of military vehicles. You can get inside a tank, a helicopter, and a few others. Lots of displays of actual uniforms, equipment and rations. Right off the interstate, actually visible from it.

Friendly and welcoming staff with a wide array of items large and small covering every major conflict in modern history. Knowing the staff is all volunteer makes their hospitality and friendliness even better. A truly great hidden gem worth the visit. Remember to bring cash for a donation as they thrive off donations and it’s totally worth supporting their efforts.

Don’t get here too late. We arrived at 4:30 (forgot we lost an hour a few miles back crossing in to central time) and the museum was already closed despite the sign saying it was open until 5. and at 4:40 they came and asked us to leave the outside exhibit so they could lock the gate. Looks like a fun place. Unfortunately we only got a few minutes to look around outside.

Stopped here just to have a look at the vehicles on the outside. Pretty cool with the descriptions on them too. Though they could use refreshing since some are really worn out and hard to read. You don't have to go inside.

Phenomenal exhibit! Well preserved. The vets who volunteer put a lot of heart into their displays. Very kind and welcoming. I watched as two volunteers were setting up a Vietnam memorial wall and one began weeping as he was securing the thousands of names to the display. Heart wrenching but honest.

From the many historical photos, bombs, and weapons to the 50+ vehicles and helicopters, it'll keep you busy for 2 hours. This exhibit makes me proud to be an American.

Very cool place for any history buff, or lover of American military memorabilia. Free! Bathrooms on site, and dog friendly. Our dog dewey ran freely around the tanks outside, and then was invited inside to enjoy the jeep collection. Cute little gift shop rounds out this adventure. Donations for vets appreciated. I would recommend this to friends. Go check it out!
