“Beautiful indie cinema”
The Kentucky Theatre is a familiar Landmark to generations of Lexingtonians. It’s richly ornamented walls and glowing stained glass fixtures have hosted gala events and entertained overflowing crowds. They have also endured hard times and disasters, both natural and manmade. And so it stands today, a true palace of memories, a hall full of comedy, tragedy, drama, adventure, and just plain fun. Today the theatre operates as a popular local independent cinema.
One of the best spots downtown. I've done everything here from seeing Jeff Mangum perform to watching UK games to seeing Wes Anderson movies and hearing a talk by my favorite graphic designer. The architecture is gorgeous and you can't beat the fresh popped popcorn no matter the event. It's right downtown so it's also nice to enjoy a little walk to and from the theatre to take in the sights. Walking inside is like going through a time warp. The letters on the marquee are still changed by hand by some dude on a really tall ladder.
One of my favorite theaters in the country!
You would never know that this amazingly beautiful theater is right int he middle of Lexington. You can see everything from bands, to games, to lectures by some of the coolest authors, artists, and musicians. Love it here.
I love this theater! It's a great place to catch movies that aren't picked up by mainstream theaters. They also host events like concerts and midnight plays of cult classic movies. This place is full of history and holds some of the most beautiful interior architecture in the city.
