“Swim in a Desert Lake!”
This serene lake offers great opportunities for fishing, bird watching, and windsurfing. Choose from a variety of campsites with utility hookups for RVs. The park is conveniently located near historic Las Vegas. One of the best ways to experience a state park is is by camping under the stars. Different camping opportunities are available and whether you like to roll out your sleeping bag or curl up in your RV, state parks has it all. Fishing, of all varieties, is one of the most popular activities at NM State Parks. Twenty-four parks have ponds, streams, rivers or lakes, providing a variety of different fishing experiences. From a lazy afternoon casting for pan-fish to a high-energy adventure of fishing for 40-inch tiger muskie, your State Parks have a lot to offer. There are many State Parks that allow you to swim. Make sure to call the park directly for changes in designated waters and seasonal closures. We do not recommend cliff diving as New Mexico's terrain is very rocky in and out of water. Please remember to always where your life jackets!

We didn’t realize the gates would be closing at 9pm, and there are spike strips on the exit. I’m not a huge fan of being locked in or out like that. We arrived shortly after 9pm and ended up having to go a few miles back into town to park at Walmart with the other trailers. Came back this morning to get water and take showers.
The lake is pretty far from these southern camp sites, but nice and quiet! There is a large, bright street light pole that lights up most of the camp area, so bring your window covers if you like sleeping in the dark.

Confirmation email stated check in time is 4:00 pm. We arrived around this time and found there was no water available at the site or any site at lease in the south loop. We found one sticker for water near the dump station. No water at the dump station and the bathroom was blocked off. We were going to go into town and noticed the sign near the gate that stayed the gate closed at 5:00. We couldn’t believe they would lock us out of the campground so we waited until after 5:00 to see if this was true-yes it’s true. The gate was locked. Looks like you only have 1 hour to check into this place. Doesn’t make sense.

First of all we only can book it online. They charged us $4 fee on the top of nightly charge. We only stay one night so booking fee is 40% of the cost ($10/night since we had a site without electricity hookup).
After we arrived there, there was no shower even though the list of amenities has shower. It is true that the website stated main shower was closed for repair. But there are 2 showers on the campground according to the campground map. We walked to another shower facility but it was locked, both men and women. There was no notice of any explanation of its closure. I think government just does not have accountability to anyone, so does this state park. From now on we will stay away from state parks or any facilities operated by government except free BLM. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this state park.
Also in the evening there were a lot of teenagers drove around and very noisy.

Stayed March 25. Your experience will depend on your level of expectation. We wanted a stop where we could get water and dump, didn't want to spend KOA money, and didn't want to drive further along our route. We made a reservation online and for our needs, this campground worked perfectly. Since we knew water was shut off until April 1, we filled with potable water by the dump station. Level sites, easy in/out, bathrooms were also closed till April 1 and the port-a-potties by the playground were open. Quiet at night once traffic died down (until obnoxious tenters with a loud muffler had to drive to the port-a-potty , repeatedly starting at 6:30a. Takes all kinds!). Lake levels are way down, but it still made a nice leg stretch walkabout after a long day of driving. Driving a little further off the interstate was worth it to us.

The showers and bathrooms were closed in mid-April, although there were vault toilets and ports potties. Fairly quiet. We did not use the lake, nor did anyone else due to high winds. Sites have picnic tables with a shelter cover.
The reservation system is confusing. Sites are marked A and R for available and reserved. Others are marked X which the reservation system indicates means unavailable, but are actually first come first serve. Flyer indicates some sites are reservable May 15 - Sept 15 only, and we were told FCFS over dates.

Easy to find, clean and quiet state park. We did not have a reservation, so we took our chances. Plenty of available spots for our 33ft class A and toad. The only thing is that there aren’t walk ins. So, 14$ isn’t really 14$. Its 18$ with the reservation fee. Nobody was at the office when we arrived, so I reserved online.

Very helpful rangers. Maintenance could use some supervision, there doesn’t appear to be anyone here except the rangers. Very little water in the lake due to severe drought conditions.

For $14 a night with water and electric you can much better!! Beautiful view of Storrie Lake. Each site has a picnic shelter. Pull through sites with plenty of room for parking. Has a nice playground for the kids! Las Vegas New Mexico is a few miles down the road. Has everything you need! A lot of history! Would definitely stay again!

We arrived midday and picked a spot in the dispersed camping along the lake. There were two other rvs on the lake but we never saw anyone go in or come out. It was very windy so we couldn’t do a fire but we did see a few stacked rock fire rings. We walked up to the playground and our 3 year old loved it! There was a bathroom on our way up to the playground but it was closed. The porta-potties were not very clean but the pit toilets by the playground were not too bad. There were a few geese that came by our door in the morning while we were eating breakfast. One of the big male geese charged at my daughter so we just kept our distance from them.
