“Beauty in Every Direction!”

The high wall, needle-like spires of the Organ Mountains curve dramatically around a semicircle of Chihuahuan Desert habitat at the Aguirre Spring Campground. The campground, nestled at the base of spectacular cliffs, overlooks the Tularosa Basin and White Sands National Monument. Alligator juniper, gray oak, mountain mahogany and sotol are a few of the abundant plant species here. Seasonal springs and streams occur in the canyon bottoms, with a few perennial springs that support riparian habitats. Hiking, camping, horseback riding, picnicking, watchable wildlife. Leashed pets are allowed on trails. The picnic/camp sites have shelters or shade trees; handicapped-accessible restrooms also are available.

nice little campground near white sands. grill and roofed picnic table at our site.

YOU MUST GO TO WHITE SANDS WHEN YOU ARE HERE. it was pure magic if magic were made out of white gypsum sand. there is no page currently on roadtrippers for white sands so i must share my enthusiasm for white sands here unfortunately.

This was a beautiful campground. The campsites were somewhat close together but each site had a picnic table and a grill and was very functional.

This is a gem! 4-5 miles off US 70 and what a place! Mountains to the South and West, great trails, Bathrooms, picnic tables under shelters, fire pits all you could ask for. Rangers come by each evening and the place is secure.

Really beautiful setting. Next time several days there will be appropriate.

Stop at White Sands and get your Senior or All Access pass and your rate is cut by $50% ($7.00 per night to $3.50)

We arrived the Monday after Easter to find the most trash-strewn campground we've ever been in. Apparently, it was a mob scene here for the holiday, so packed that you couldn't drive through, and 6 cop cars cruising around to keep things under control. The locals use this campground for day use and picnicking, which means that you might want to steer clear on holiday weekends with nice weather.

The hosts said that an outside company takes care of the vault toilets (which were immaculate), and empties the trash cans, but does not clean up individual sites. So, we asked for some trash bags, and spent time every day picking up all the trash.

While we were there, only a couple spots were taken, and it was quiet. Besides the trash issue, this is one of our favorite campgrounds ever!

I must have mixed this campground up with another, but was expecting standard BLM dispersed camping. We arrived at about 8:30 at night, and it's a legit campground that closes at 8, so we had to turn around and drive to our next best option.

This was a decent campground with some beautiful views and a few trailheads very close to the the campground. You will be about 30 min from Las Cruces, which is the nearest town for grocery shopping, etc. There isn't much to do in town, so don't plan on spending much time there. Bathrooms were pretty clean, although they did run out of toilet paper, so bring your own as a backup. It was decently quiet here with only a few other sites filled during the week. It started to get busier as we got closer to the weekend. You will be about a 45 minute drive to White Sands, so you can easily take a day trip to White Sands from the campground. There ARE coyotes. We heard them nightly, and also saw a ton of coyote droppings on the trails, so keep your dogs on leash.

The camp host was a bit rude, and probably the reason this place isn't getting a 4/5 from us. They lock the bottom gate (about 4 miles out from the campground) at either 6 or 7 pm, depending on time of year- please be sure to read the sign. We had gone into town for dinner one night, and when we came back around 8pm, we were locked out. It was an honest mistake, and we've never stayed at a campground where guests will be locked out if they aren't back by a certain time. We had to knock on the host's door and ask him to let us in, and he couldn't have been more rude. He was yelling and swearing and completely unforgiving. So, don't plan on being out late or you will be in for it. Other than that, we found this to be a decent, affordable place to stay and work from for the week between stops in White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns.

When we got to this location, the sign out front recommend no RVs over 23 feet. Since that was just a recommendation, my husband decided to take the road up. We have a 30 foot travel trailer. The roads were windy and long, but it was doable. We found a spot that fit our trailer and truck, and the view was stunning. We were for sure the biggest rig there. We found a little slice of heaven. Downside, the gates close at 6 PM! You cannot be in town or out to dinner, because you can’t get back in to get to your rig. I was a little surprised that they locked you in. I had also read ever review about the host and not being very friendly, so we didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. We made sure we were in. Hiking was amazing, the kids enjoyed the trails, the views were just stunning. Well worth this day, just make sure you’re in by six. There are restrooms, no showers. Fresh water near the enterence so we were a ken to fill with water. Most sites were uneven, our trailer was on 4 blocks and still tilted.

We enjoyed 10 nights with level 10 space awesome Pavilion over there picnic table & bathrooms nearby ( which were the cleanest bathrooms that we have ever seen and I made sure to thank the staff that was responsible for the bathroom upkeep for the awesome job that they are doing on the bathrooms. They were so clean that it looked like they had just been done every time you walked in there plenty of toilet paper and the staff was extremely friendly and even gave us pointers on cool places to check out and hike) and trash cans accessible everywhere hiking was fantastic with amazing views the winds were a little bit crazy our tent got shredded so be prepared to tie down extra supports on your tent overall I would give this a five-star the only downside we found to this spot was the curfew of 6 which is really crazy when you're on vacation to have to be in by 6 p.m. we had to rush through dinner to be able to get back before 6 and we made it with 4 minutes to spare so that would be my biggest and only complaint is the curfew. We have the access pass so it was 50% off for the camping!!!

We unhooked our toad from our 33' motorhome and did just fine on the steep, and tight curved road up to the campground. The entire road is paved, so that's nice. The toughest part of the drive is on a one-way stretch, so at least you aren't trying to pass oncoming vehicles on the tight curves. Water is available at the camp host site, which is positioned at the base of the mountains, before you do the big climb up to the campground. This is where we unhooked and where there is a spigot available. Like others have said there is a gate that will lock at 6pm, with no way to open it. You are able to leave the campground at any time (there are just tire spikes to prevent you from entering there).
When you get to the top, there is a self-pay kiosk, and you can either go to the right and search in that campground loop or go left which also has campsites but this area is one-way and will eventually take you out of the campground if you don't find a site...so you'll have to do the tight curvy drive all over again (luckily I learned this with the toad and not the motorhome).
We were in site 35 which fit our rig just fine but weren't able to get fully level. Very much nose down, which is a bit disconcerting on such a steep road! Site 32 looked pretty nice, much more level and basically the first option on the right once you take that road to the left from the pay kiosk. There are trash bins at every site which is a nice touch. We did the Pine Tree Trail Loop hike and enjoyed that. Awesome views the whole time.

We stayed at this campground while traveling west from Alamogordo heading towards Arizona. We chose this campground based on the positive reviews and five-star rating on campendium. It did not disappoint. The campground is perched on the eastern slopes of the Organ Mountains near Baylor pass just east of Las Cruces. The road leading to the campground was very curvy, but paved the whole way. It was an easy slog for our 24 ft. Class C. We stayed in site 28 which was relatively flat. There were sites that were a bit more level, and many others that were unlevel or small enough to only accommodate tents. The views were amazing with the towering Organ Mountains to the west and the beautiful desert valley to the east. The weather seems to be at least a few degrees cooler than the valley below so it would be a nice place to escape the heat. There are a couple hiking trails nearby, one was closed due to a recent fire. We hiked the trail closest to the campground which offered more of the same spectacular views witnessed from the campground. The trail loosely followed a small stream (I would guess it's seasonal, it was barely a trickle in early March). The price of $7 per night is a phenomenal bargain. Each site has a garbage can, a covered picnic table, a charcoal grill, and a fire pit.
