“Arizona's Playground”

Lake Havasu State Park is located on the shores of Lake Havasu, and features clean white sand beaches and a large grassy area. The park offers panoramic views of the lake and mountains beyond. Picnic tables, grills and shade covers make this the perfect site to spend the day on the beach, or you may want to stay and camp awhile. There are also group picnic areas for that special family reunion! There are many activities that make a Lake Havasu vacation unique. For those who enjoy hiking and walking, the park has the Mohave Sunset Trail, a short but scenic 1.75 mile walk and the Arroyo-Camino Interpretive Garden, home to diverse species of plants and wildlife. Birdwatchers may spot an Anna’s Hummingbird or a Great Horned Owl. Leashed pets are welcome in all areas except the beach. The scenic shoreline of Lake Havasu State Park is an ideal place to enjoy beautiful beaches, nature trails, boat ramps, and convenient campsites. This spot is truly a watersport haven located near the famous London Bridge of Lake Havasu City. The park offers 3 boat ramps, 47 campsites, a special events area (not available on holiday weekends), picnic area, and beach area. The Mohave Sunset Trail (1.75 miles) winds its way through the lowland desert and along the shoreline. The Arroyo-Camino Interpretive Garden showcases the diverse life that exists within the park and this area of the desert. Birds, lizards, and desert cottontails are common sights. The campground is open. All sites now have 50 amp electrical hookups and access to potable water at individual sites. Nightly camping fee is $30.00 a night; except beachfront sites which are $35.00 a night. Beachfront sites include site numbers: 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 14, 16, 34, 36, 38, 40, and 41. Plant life is diverse in Lake Havasu State Park with Cottonwood (Populus spp.) and Willow (Salix spp.) along the river and Mesquite (Prosopis spp.) and a variety of cacti in the drier areas. Aster spp., Lilies (Liliaceae family), Agave spp., Daisies (Eriophyllum spp.), Primroses (Oenothera spp.), and Poppies (Argemone spp. and Eschscholzia spp.) are just some of the flowers to be found here in the spring. Following a wet winter, the park can have quite a spectacular wildflower display. There are also several rare Buckwheat (Eriogonum spp.) and Penstemon spp. in Mohave County. Lake Havasu State Park is also habitat for many animals as well. Mammals found here include several bat species (Myotis and others), Kit and Gray Fox (Vulpes macrotis and Urocyon cinereoargenteus), Mountain Lion (Puma concolor) and Bobcat (Lynx rufus) although both are rarely seen, and two kinds of skunk (Mephitis mephitis and Spilogale gracilis). Several kinds of squirrel, mice, and rat also make their home here. This area is also habitat for several kinds of snakes and lizards including the Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) which is protected in CA and managed in AZ. We only spent one night here in our travel trailer. We stayed on site 3. It was a spacious site right on the lake but with no shade. The park seemed clean but we didn't explore much. The lake was warm and our kids loved playing in the water. The sites don't have sewer hook up but there is a dump station near the exit. It was quiet except for some noise from boats. We would stay again for a longer time.

Great camp with a great view. Clean and level space with water and 50A hook-up. No sewer but they have a dump station which is included. Was able to reserve the spot which was a huge plus. Dogs are allowed, just not on the beach.

Didn't stay in park with RV. But looked nice. They do have a dump station that anyone can use for a fee of $15. I stayed on blm and used there dump station.

Lake Havasu State Park is clean and the sites are nicely spaced. We enjoyed the trail along the lake and were happy to get 30+ channels of over-the-air HDTV.

There's some noise from the lake during the day and you could also hear noise from the street. Neither were so loud that we wouldn't stay here again.

Site notes for next time:

2, 3 have partial water views.

7, 8, 10, 14, 16 have the best water views, with #8 having the biggest front yard, though it's a little close to site 7.

34, 36, 38, 40 also have water views. #38 has a biggest front yard in this section and sits right in front of the new sandy beach.

Great location in Lake Havasu City and spacious sites. You're close to many amenities...short walk to the London Bridge and nice view of the lake! Didn't notice traffic noise but, some of the boats can get loud. Good Verizon reception and antenna TV. Some of the sites have the water and electric hook ups on the opposite side of your rig but, that wasn't a problem for us. There was a pack of coyotes that were roaming the campground and unfortunately, a small dog was snatched that had been left tied up while unattended. Never a good idea, especially in this part of the country!

"This is paradise," he told me as he hooked up his hose. He backed his giant RV up with ease, but his wife was having trouble getting their massive racing boat into the slotted spot next to it.

"It just doesn't get any better than this!" He repeated it twice, in case I didn't hear the first time.

"Yeah, it's nice," the lackluster performance of my own vocal chords didn't win with him an Oscar.

"What do you mean? Sunshine, the water, what else do you want?"

"Well," I replied, "I judge a campground by whether or not you can pee outside without it being weird."

The conversation tapered off quickly.

You definitely can't sneak a pee outside here. This state park feels more like an RV park with really, really big spaces. I think it's the first time I've ever given a state park only three stars. I expect to read about it in the Times tomorrow.

"Man gives Arizona state park first 3 star review, despite proximity to ridiculously expensive foreign bridge."

I'd shoot for one of the other parks just south if I were in the area again, though if you're looking for great cell service and immediate access to a town with a Starbucks, Safeway, hardware and RV stores, this place certainly isn't the worst you can do.

We stayed here twice. The first time before they added water and electrical for $20 per night. That means they upped the charge $15 per night for water and power,, not such a great deal in my mind. Still a nice park and if you don't care about waterfront you can save $5. That being said it will be more appealing to those that like the hookups.
Easy access to town and the tourist stuff. I bet it gets crazy loud in the summer with the hot rod boats on the water but that's the attraction to some.

We visited Lake Havasu a few months before my husband's mountain biking race so he could try out the course. This wasn't a bucket list destination for us, but it was a nice trip to take over New Year's. The spots are roomy but not really private. You can pay $5 more for a beach spot, but we didn't bother. Our lake views were interrupted by others' RVs, obviously, but it's big lake.

We were there during the down season, but even though boaters were few and far between the campground was still full the whole time we were there. Maybe that was because of the holidays. Everyone was friendly and kind, and it was nice to meet others and chat.

The rangers at the guard booth were very friendly and helpful, and they seem to be out and about often checking things out and clearing sites almost immediately after campers pull out. The restrooms have flush toilets, and the camp hosts keep them spotless. The rug in front of the sink and nicer soaps are a thoughtful touch. I appreciated the hand lotion, too. The dump station has room for two, but the flush hose on our side didn't have a connector. If you carry an extra, you're good to go.

We had a little trouble finding the place because we used Google. That takes you to the middle of SARA Park, so make sure you fill in the street address from their website so you get there more efficiently. It's close to London Bridge and a pretty park just to the south of the bridge. SARA Park is about six miles away, and the Crack in the Mountain Trail is a must-do. We and our kids (12 and 9) really enjoyed going through that slot canyon. My husband said the mountain biking trails there were excellent, too.

It's an easily accessible, clean campground in Lake Havasu. If we are ever there again, I might try some of the state parks just south of it though like Buckskin Mountain. The sites here were just a little too close to each other, and there are very few lush trees to create any sense of privacy from fellow campers.

This park is very nicely laid out. The sites with hookups are very nice. We couldn't get into one of those because we came during February (busy time). We camped in the overflow camping lot which happens to be right on the beach. We stayed for 7 days and loved it. They happen to have a bass fishing tournament on Thursday which made for a lot of noise and exhaust fumes but other than that it was nice. Showers are fantastic and bathrooms are very clean. When it is high season you are tightly tucked together. Remember it is a parking lot after all. Over all I would definitely recommend the park and will come back (with a reservation for a hook up site) in the future.

We enjoyed the state park because it had a nice sandy beach area, was right in town, the sites were spacious and the dogs loved swimming every morning and night.Be sure to check out the London Bridge. You can take in views of the bridge while enjoying cold beers at Barley Brother’s Brewery, or you can go on sunset boat tours! We also had a fun time taking the $2.00 ferry across the lake to the casino one night. And of course, you have to enjoy the water in whatever way suits you. We rented stand up paddle boards from Nautical Watersports, which was conveniently next to the awesome Turtle Beach Bar that makes you feel like you’re in the Caribbean!
