We got a lovely lower park next to the lake around 4:30 and wasn't full but can see this place fill up in summer.... Quickly
Consider getting a tag in the mornings to protect your spot
Not far from the Tetons but the paved roads are in desperate need of repair, if you go slow any type of motorhome can make it...

The road to the camp was paved at one time but now has massive potholes big enough to swallow a car so drive slowly and with caution. I only visited in the off seaon but I know it can be busy in the summer. Only about half of the sites were occupied when I visited. Most sites are level and all gravel. The upper loop is mostly shady with smaller sites and the lower loop by the water is more open. Good tables and fire rings available at each site, clean bathrooms. Firewood is sparse in the area so come prepared or buy some from the camp hosts.
The camp itself is quiet but there is a ranch across the lake with a herd of cows that like to moo all night long. Especially if its a full moon. And sound carries a long way out here.
UPDATED 7/2020 - arrived on Wednesday 7/1 and got one of the last 4 spots available - site #6, perfect fit for a truck camper. Camp filled by 2pm every day through the 4th of July holiday. Lots of frustrated folks were turned away until all hours of the night. And I don't blame them after making that awful drive to get to camp.... get here early or don't bother. The 6 mile drive from the turnoff along Antelope Flats Rd took me about 30 minutes with the camper and I would consider myself a very capable driver. Campsites are in high demand in the Teton valley this summer and campgrounds and established dispersed sites fill early every day. Finding a campsite should be your #1 priority if you are visiting.
On the plus side - if you are lucky enough to get a spot here you can be guaranteed to have a quiet stay with a great camp host keeping an eye on things. He makes his rounds through camp on his golf cart about every 30 minutes or so, checking in with everyone as he goes. All sites and bathrooms are kept very clean.

Couple miles of potholes but great campground. We pulled in around 7pm and very friendly host David got us settled in a great spot. Lots of families, felt very safe, beautiful water views.

If you can put up with the “very very rough road” as the Forest Service sign says, you will be rewarded. It is a potholed paved road which is a tough go.
I’ve stayed in the past here, met the same campground host this time, but my wife needed cell service so she could work. We have both Verizon and ATT and there is NO service whatsoever. Even at the highest campsite.
NOTE: There are two sites with water and electric, the camp host has one, the other is at the top of the hill. That site is $30. The senior rate is $7 for all the other sites.
Enjoy it now as if the road gets re-paved it won’t be such a quiet place anymore.

Love this little campground. Had planned to stay one night just passing through, but opted for a 2nd night because we didn’t want to leave. Arrived first night and campground was full - they very kindly let us stay over in the overflow parking/boat ramp parking lot. And bonus, told us who was expected to be leaving in the morning so that we could keep our eye out and nab a great spot. #16 is perfect, large spot, picnic tables and extraordinary view. Little bumpy coming up the road, mostly filled potholes, none swallowed us up. :) Totally worth the trek. Others mentioned it was quite far but I didnt feel like it was. Dry camping, mix of RVs and tents. Our RV was the largest here at 27’- but several spots could handle a 40-44 5th wheel in my opinion. You could at least turn around easily if you had to leave- just hope you don’t! Ask for David - this is his 4th summer running through campground as host, and he was a jem. Verizon service was on and off at one bar. Managed a few texts and a call. Don’t depend on it though. We have a government grade satellite dish, which is a godsend, Viasat 1 signal great.

Atherton is a gem of a campground, set back from the hustle and bustle of Jackson and the Teton NP. As others have mentioned the last part of the road does have potholes, but go slow and watch where you are going. I took my 20ft R-pod there with no problems. We secured a spot at 11am on a Monday in July, it filled shortly after. David the camp host was very attentive to his guests. He drove by several times to see if we needed anything, allowed people to camp in an overflow area we deemed the “corral” and genuinely cared about the campground. The lake and mountain views were incredible...I would 100% go back next time I’m in the area.

Ours was 1 of 3 that were double sites and cost $25, no discount. The rest were $14/7. Our site was the only one with electric which we used as it was above normal temperatures.
Road work to the CG to be completed by the end of the summer. 15 minute delays.
Great Lake (Slide)for kayaking and paddle boarding.
Read the geology how the lake was formed on a pull out on the way
Hike to Grizzly lake further along the road.
Come by 9 to get a campsite. They will let you park in the boat launch area, ask Justin,!Dave next year.
Close to Teton National Park. If hiking in the park get there early early or there will be too many people. Also the earlier to see wild life.
With our booster we frequently had internet.

Still working on the road, so you will get dirty. You may find some cell down by the lake. Decent solar. Justin lets latecomers camp in the boat parking lot. It's still a long way to the NP from here. Road work starts at 7. Some ATV traffic during the day.

An absolutely beautiful location to be outside the GTNP and still be able to go into Jackson. This is a must stay for Boondockers. Clean vault toilets, clean lake. The morning we left we saw a Momma Grizzly bear and her cub, they ran in front of our truck about 20 ft from us.
We had a Momma deer and fawn visit us at our campsite. Beautiful place that invites many nature walks. Go up to. Rust also Creek Campground for a day trip as well.

We stayed two nights here and it was beautiful! Beware that there appears to be a lot of bear activity there. Be beary aware! 😊
If you are not in an RV or camper be sure to check the tent spots by the boat ramp! After unpacking at spot number 4, we ended up moving to spot 26 and water views.
There were a ton of mosquitoes and it is a ways out, but it was beautiful and quiet. We would definitely stay there again.
