“Breathtaking Cliff Dwellings”

Welcome to the Navajo National Monument. Navajo National Monument preserves three intact cliff dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloan people. A visitor center, museum, three short self-guided trails, two small campgrounds, and a picnic area provide service to travelers.

Very nice park. The trail to view the dwellings is very well kept. It is just under a half mile trek to the viewing area from the Visitor Center on a paved path. The viewing area is across a canyon from the actual ruins. You can see the dwellings with the naked eye, but there are high powered binoculars available to see them up close. Fortunately, my camera has a decent zoom and I was able to get a good picture of the dwellings. Photo by smart phone is probably not your best bet.

There are no fees to enter this park -- this was a pleasant surprise!

This was beautiful! We came to hike into Betatakin, but the wet weather prevented us(the trail is all on limestone that gets slicker than snot when wet). The paved trail to overlook was nice though. We will be returning during better weather to make the long hike in. Also, The rangers at the visitors center were very friendly, and the bathrooms were super clean.

A relatively short walk down a slope, paved trail. You can see it from a distance, and with a good lens get some closer photos. Might be worth the stop but if you have seen mesa verde already you have been wowed.

This place was great!! Short little hikes, get to familiarize yourself with this part of the country and it's history. Very interesting and neat!! Definitely worth the extra 10 miles in and out! I drove from Moab heading to GCNP and it was just off the road!! Great place to stretch my legs and learn something! Very helpful knowledge when visiting GCNP!!! Totally recommend!

Unless you are planning to do some hiking I wouldn't bother with this stop.
