“7.5 acres of desert sculpture!”
Noah Purifoy's "Outdoor Desert Art Museum" is 7.5 acres of open land displaying Purifoy's assemblage sculptures, all created on-site between 1989 and 2004.
This is a GREAT stop if you're near Palm Springs or on your way to Yucca Valley or Joshua Tree. Not only is it free, but there is an informational sheet at the entrance so you can give yourself a tour. Other people may recognize this artist as the man who created the Watts Towers in LA, before he retired to the desert. This stop is not very far from the 29 Palms Freeway. Enjoy!
Very strange little place but very cool to see. I went in the middle of the day but was sort of wishing I had gone in the morning or evening when the sun was at more of an angle. Would have made the experience moodier. :)
Very cool, happy to have seen in person
A very fascinating look into an artist's mind. Displays were built from an eclectic array of materials and keep the viewers wondering what to make of the intention. An awesome sight in the desert, well worth the visit - but be sure to use the bathroom beforehand and bring lots of water if you visit during the summer months.
Such a cool spot to stop and look around.
