Wallowa Lake area has activities for everyone in the family. If you're interested in a campground surrounded on three sides by 9,000' tall snow-capped mountains and a large clear lake, this is the area for you.  Around the Wallowa Lake area, you can enjoy hiking wilderness trails, horseback riding, go-karts, canoeing, miniature golf or ride a tramway to the top of Mount. Howard, elevation 8,256 ft (a rise of 4,000 ft). Wildlife is abundant in the area. There are gift shops nearby and a thriving artist community which does world-class bronze castings. Wallowa Lake also serves as a gateway to visit Hells Canyon, the deepest gorge in North America.

You better make sure to call ahead to this popular campground. We made reservations 2 months in advance and the only reason we were able to get a spot at all was that someone had cancelled (we know because there were no spots and then one spot opened up the next day). I understand why it is crowded, but wow.

Very Pretty in the winter time. Lots of snow. The close mountains give you a Switzerland feeling. The campground are very nice and have lots of grass. We stayed in the park and car camped.

Ice-age forces shaped the area around Wallowa Lake. The lateral moraines along the east and west edges of the lake were carved by glaciers as they inched their way down the valley. The are lots of activities to enjoy here: great fishing and water sports, go carts, miniature golf, hiking, Llama packing, or horse-back riding into the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The wilderness has over 500 miles of trails through alpine meadows and past pristine lakes. Here you will experience first hand the Alps of Oregon.
