“inside jemez state monument”
Further along Hwy 4 is Soda Dam where water from underground hot springs has flowed for centuries. The buildup of mineral deposits has formed a unique and spectacular natural dam that blocks the Jemez River. It is one of the most photographed spots on the Trail.
This was a great quick stop on our roadtrip. There were very few people and it was a cool water/geologic feature.
The kids had a blast playing under the falls. Pro tip, the rocked off area in the river has a pipe feeding it water from a hot spring. The hot spring pool is the perfect place for parents to hang out while kids play in the river.
We pulled over when we saw this and it was a pretty cool sight to see. The water is very clear and pretty and the geology of the natural dam itself was interesting. Definitely worth the stop.
