“within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area”
The campground is in the Red Cliffs Recreation Area and is located just off Interstate 15, 14 miles northeast of St. George, Utah, and 35 miles south of Cedar City, Utah. It is nestled into a shaded nook of riparian vegetation just minutes from the freeway. Directly adjacent to, and accessible from the campground, are a series of trails, and interpreted archaeological and paleontological sites. The campground and surrounding areas are all within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, which has been set aside to conserve, protect, and enhance ecological, scenic, wildlife, recreational, cultural, historical, natural, educational, and scientific resources. Due north of the campground are the steep and beautiful red rocks of the Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness. Campsites can't be reserved, they're first come first served. Take Interstate 15 north from St. George, Utah, to Exit 22*. At the end of the freeway off-ramp, turn right onto Old Highway 91 (frontage road). Travel south 2 miles and turn right after passing the sign for the Red Cliffs Recreation Area. Continue under two freeway tunnels and follow the paved road for 1.3 miles into the campground. *If heading south from Cedar City, Utah, take Exit 23. Turn left on Silver Reef Road, then turn right onto Main Street. Travel south for 3.5 miles on Main Street (which turns into Old Highway 91). Continue the directions above.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on March 01, 2024Beautiful campsite. Eleven individual campsites. Each had a campfire ring, a covered picnic table and many had an additional picnic table. About half the sites were fairly private. One male/female bathroom available. Tucked nicely into the Red Cliffs for absolutely gorgeous morning scenery. The cost was $15 per night. Twenty minutes from St. George, five minutes off the highway.
Red Cliffs is a charming year-round camping area, but particularly attractive in the Fall and Spring of the year when the cold settles in the north. The cliffs protect the campground from the harsh winter winds. When it is icy in the north, Red Cliffs is a pleasant place to enjoy the warmth of the sun. Summers can be hot within the rock enclosure.
Don't believe the blogs that say this is a hidden gem, as it is apparently hidden no longer. Today was my third attempt to get a site here and have never been successful. Access can be dicey, you need to fit through two single lane tunnels that say they are 11'9" high. I don't know how narrow the width is but if I had an 8'5" wide rig it might be nerve-racking as well. There is a day use fee to get in, but if you have any of the national park passes it will cover that. So at least you wouldn't have to pay the day use fee only to find there were no sites.

This little campground outside of Hurricane is surrounded by vibrant red rocks. It's a cute little hidden spot, if you can get to it.
The campground is accessed off I-15, exit 22. To reach the campground there are two *tiny* underpasses: you cannot be more than 11'5" high or wide.
Once reaching the campground you'll find an odd combination of small un-level sites, as well as some tent spots down in the wash. No amenities at the sites, but there are bathrooms and a freshwater fillup (both out of service until the end of March 2017).
I scouted this campground but didn't actually stay, and the reason for that was there is no service. I needed to work the next morning so needed to move on.
It's a funky little campground, to be sure, but would be a cool place to stay for a few days if you're small enough and don't need internet.

This site is 15$ regardless if you have the annual pass or not. Seniors do get a discount. This place has 11 spots with covered picnic tables, water spicket and a fire ring. The bathrooms are vault toilets and a bit smelly. The campground it self is in a canyon so it was not windy even though it was very windy outside the canyon. We arrived at 7:00 pm on a Monday and there were 3 spots available. The other 2 quickly filled.

This campground, with day use areas, has one loop with about 11 sites. A couple of sites are pull through and a couple are long enough for a small trailer, maybe up to 25'. As other campers have mentioned, there are 2 tunnels with 11' clearance so it is definitely not a place for 5th wheels or larger RVs. It has a vault toilet, which is also used by day use people.
The campground/picnic area is located in a cottonwood grove along Quail Creek, at the mouth of a canyon. It's very pretty. There are trails in the area. It is a popular area and commonly full, except in the winter months.

We stayed here for Thanksgiving. We have a 30’ trailer. Watch the Bridge you must go under for height. No fifth wheels. Great hikes to dinosaur foot prints, native relics and a slot like canyon. From here we day tripped to a ghost town and mining museum and watched a shoot out. Near Laverkin. Very nice lots of trees and privacy. Catch crayfish in the creek. The only downfall it has a day use area and is close to St George. So it was full of day use people on the hikes on the weekends. I gave it 3 stars for noise on the weekends. But it was very quiet and nice at our campsite all the time. Loved it and had a great time with friends. It was first come only. We got the last 2 sites!

So as stated in other reviews, you must pass through two tunnels under I-15 (Height/Width) restricted. Campground was clean, well maintained, paved site pads, not level, water, tables, shade and fire pits at each site. $15/$7.50 with interagency pass. Solar production was great and 4 bars of T-Mobile 4G LTE. Multiple hiking trailheads at the campground, beautiful area!

We loved our stay at Red Cliffs campground at the end of December. The spots are small but we were able to find a perfect pull through for our 31 foot class c. My kids loved all the rocks to climb on and the hiking trails were so fun! It was rainy and cold while we were there but the sun popped out several times to provide gorgeous sunrises and sunsets against the red rock. This campground was close to St. George (about 15-20 min) for us to visit family and friends. Bathrooms were clean, campground was clean and the forest rangers were very kind! The park was busy - but we don’t mind it- that’s means more people are out enjoying God’s country! We will definitely stay again!

We stopped by this place because the description seemed great, looked like lots of interesting things to do. Unfortunately , everyone else thought so too. Very crowded and if you want to camp you'll need reservations now.
We didn't stay, no room. Just a heads up, book first.
