The fourth largest marathon in the United States, the Honolulu Marathon features over 30,000 participants, and all different levels of runners. The course is compatible with beginners and pros alike, with varied routes, ranging from two miles at shortest, to over twenty-five at longest. Held in December, with no limit to participants and no cut off time, it inspires community friendliness rather than competition, and many people choose to walk the trails simply to participate with friends and families. Starting at the iconic Ala Moana Boulevard, the course offers views of Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, and the Koko Head volcanic craters. Aid stations along the way, offering sports drinks and medical care, make sure that all runners get to the finish line at Kapiolani Park safe and hydrated, and ready for the evening fireworks display that celebrates the day out.
