Natchez Trace RV Campground

We went to this campground to participate to a rally and this was the designated place to stay. Our anticipation turned into disappointment after the first few hours. The roads are in terrible shape and badly need to be repaired/repaved and the sites are a mixture of gravel and mud. The campground is plagued by bad erosion and to add insult to injury it was raining heavily with strong winds. The bathroom/shower facility was in bad shape and pretty old without any dry bench to sit or put anything. Even with a wifi and cellular booster we couldn't get internet at all. No radio or tv channels either. Only electric and water hookup, a dump was was nearby but not on site. Whatever good time we had was provided solely by the rally we attended.
No, we wouldn't go back and it's a shame because it's a very pretty area.

Natchez Trace Campground is rather large and spaced out. Many trees and sites with a view of a large body of water. This is an older campground with spotty AT&T cell service even though I was able to use my Netgear internet gizmo so I cannot complain. The electrical and water hookups are certainly showing their age. But everything worked. The restroom and showers are clean and well-heated. Laundry facilities looked good but we did not need to use them. Very pretty area and I imagine this park gets pretty busy during less inclement weather. There are several full-time year-round campers here, but few were visiting their trailers the two nights we were here. For a first-time trailer experience this park was ok. It could have been worse and there is room for improvement. But all in all a pretty good place. Heading south on the Natchez Trail tomorrow and the beginning of our adventure without a net.

Beware of low bridge! If you're coming in from the Natchez Trace there is an 11 foot bridge. The side of the road is dug out so you can go under it if you need to, but we didn't chance it. We were coming up from the south, so we took 64 to 241 and when we left we took Napier Rd to 20 headed North.

This park was included in our membership, but the nightly rate is $32 for non-members.
There is next to no cell service on any carrier here. I was able, with a booster (ATT) or an antenna (Verizon), to get enough AT&T or Verizon signal to work. The only place where we were able to get signal was Phase 2 on the top of the hills (300s section).

There are not many FHU sites and many sites are small or unlevel. Par for the course with Thousand Trails, most of the larger sites and all of the lake front sites are taken my seasonal or annual residents. This probably was, and could be again, a nice park but it is in some serious disrepair. The buildings are dated, the roads are broken and falling apart and it one of those parks that really gives you that Trailer Park vibe instead of campground. It's a shame because more Thousand Trails park seem to be ending up this way. It's an economical way to travel, but you certainly get what you pay for.

There isn't much to do in the area, but the Natchez Trace Parkway is fantastic! There are plenty of stops to explore from open pit mines to waterfalls. There are also 3 wineries pretty close by and a great brewery (Asgard) about 45 minutes away in Columbia.

Overall, it's Thousand Trails. It's not great, it's not horrible. If you don't have a booster or antenna, don't expect to get any internet so don't go out of your way to go here.

Your typical TT campground. This one is on the lower end of the scale though. Front desk was very nice and helpful. Park is run down and in need of lots of attention.
This is a large CG. It is very hilly and a long drive to the far end of the park. Spots are not very level.
Be forewarned if you NEED internet come well prepared. I have 4 different boosters including a Yagi antenna on top a 20 foot pole. The best I could manage was .25 mbps down .01 up. As said it is VERY hilly so pick your site at the top of the hill. Hind sight 20/20 I should have went with 30A service at the top of the hill. I listed this as 1 bar but that was WITH a booster. There are very few FHU and 50A service spots. Lots of annuals are in this park so don't plan on any site near the lake if that is what you are looking for.
Speed limit in the park is posted at 5mph. Annuals seem to add a zero to that speed limit with their motorized utility vehicles so be careful if you have kids. Roads are in horrid disrepair. I've been to boondocking spots with better roads. The pool is just opening so I can't say as I did not go. If you want to be away from the world this is a good place. 30 mins+ to town and civilization including a small "super" Walmart. A few places to eat but a small town is Hohenwald (home of Oliver Travel Trailers). Have NO plans to return to this park.

This is the first Thousand Trails campground that we will never be going back to. Had a horrible experience all around.

Getting to the campsite was difficult, the hills are crazy. The sites are not at all level. There is no cell coverage to speak of unless you happen to be at the top of the hill in a small circle about 10 feet in diameter and never move or risk losing your call. They have wifi, but it never works. Can't even use it to check email.

The camp store is useless. They have about five coolers for beer, one of soda, two gallons of milk, a pack of hot dogs. And that's about it. The few times we went into the camp store, the staff was sitting at the tables eating. Didn't acknowledge us, didn't say hi, nothing. We had to stand there and ask to get checked out so we could leave. Not that hard to actually pay attention to customers and use a cash register, but the staff here seems incapable of doing that.

Also, there is literally nothing to do around here. The pool and facilities are so far from the TT area that there is no way you would walk to them. Its nearly a mile up and down hills, maybe more. And other things to do around the area? Well, not much. There are a few historic sites, a couple towns that have a Walmart and nothing else, and that's about it.

Very very rural location. You are going to be 20 minutes drive away from Hohenwald (4000 residents), and 30 minutes from Lawrenceburg (10,000 residents). If you need supplies and most things go to Lawrenceburg. Used our Thousand Trails membership to stay for free (not considering yearly $500 fee as a reminder). Imagine going back to a time when there was no internet and cellphones. Recommend you get and use FAMILY TALK RADIOS (FRS radios) so you can keep in touch with your family while getting around this several ache (100 acres?) campus.

We had one bar of Verizon coverage (minimal get by) that allowed texting. Had to drive to highest hill to get better coverage for conversation. No AT&T. The on campus internet is minimal and spotty, as you will not be able to stream Netflix or YouTube. But you can go to the family/recreation center which has its own wifi and get by with connections. Make sure you bring lots of cached/saved Netflix movies to watch.

The website said they have WiFi (that you pay for, which is fine by us). However upon getting there, they don’t have WiFi that you can pay for at your site. There is also no cell coverage (sprint) even with our $500 weboost device. We are full-timers and we run 3 businesses from the road. Having WiFi is important to us and we don’t mind paying for it. If a place doesn’t have WiFi we can do most of our work using cell service so it’s acceptable. I realize that some people want to get away from it all and that’s great, but we chose THIS campground because it said they have WiFi and they don’t, and had no explanation for it other than “we are working on it”. They do provide free WiFi at some of the common areas such as the little store and pavilion but it wasn’t great. This is Feb 2019 so if you’re reading this and it’s been a few months, I would suggest calling them directly to see if they now have WiFi. If they get it in the future we would return but not until then and from now on I will be calling each thousand trails location to verify the WiFi before we venture out. There weren’t many sites with sewer either which was weird considering how huge this place is. A lot of the sewer sites (and w/e only) were taken up by annuals. More than any other TT we have been to so far. Still our site was ok. No fire pit though and really close to other sites. The nearest gas station is about 10 miles away. The nearest Walmart/grocery/fast food is about 25 mins away in Hohenwald but a better option is Lawrenceburg which is 30-35 mins away and has more stores and a 24 hour Walmart. We LOVED the Natchez Trace Parkway and saw so many deer including a rare albino doe! We also encountered some Amish locals at Walmart and saw a few horse and buggies which was awesome because we don’t have that kind of thing where we live. This is a great location for exploring the area but if you’re someone who needs to be “connected” it’s not ideal.

For a huge park it is well kept. I was able to get 50 amp service but the water pressure was terrible. Cellular signal was very weak even with my booster. Wished there was more room in the site we stayed at. Overall this has been the best Thousands Trails we have stayed at.

After much research we decided to go off of our typical Resort and State park rotation and try a 1000 Trails resort. The drive was beautiful except for an extremely low bridge (11ft) near the entrance to the resort which we had prepared for and it was not a surprise however when we arrived to the resort it seemed disorganized and fragmented. We knew it was a first come first serve in finding your site but what they don't tell you is that the majority of the premium sites near the water are taken up with homesteaders that have full on decks and foundations to the travel trailers. The roads crumbled underneath our motorhome and the steep terrain made it difficult for just adequate tow vehicles but the sites are well marked plus the map they give you is detailed. We had no lake access due to the homesteader having private access walkways that apparently they had created themselves. Bathrooms and town hall are clean and well thought out. Most activities were shut down due to the virus so no fault of the campground. My wife and two sons will not be traveling back to this location.
