My fiancé and I are on a road trip from New York to California and stayed at the Mount Rushmore KOA during our time in the Black Hills. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest I've seen... anywhere, and it had one of the most well-stocked welcome centers I have ever come across. As we both work from the road the WiFi was not quite as strong as we needed it to be, but Hill City just up the road was a really cute town where we could plug in and connect. Check out more from our stay by checking out our blog.

We would defiantly stay again. 2 different pools to choose from, lots of play areas for the kids, and many places to eat and grab a snack. Don't miss out on the pancake breakfast! Wifi doesn't work very well and we did not have any cell service but that should not put you away as this is a great place to spend some quality family time without being glued to electronic devices.

My family just returned from a two week roadtrip that included a three night stay at the Mount Rushmore KOA and we have nothing but good things to say about this place ! We had never stayed at a KOA before but because of the location we decided to try it out and we were very pleasantly surprised. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and there were so many things to do here that we never got to enjoy all of them. We did go on a trail ride ( AMAZING ), Chuck wagon dinner, and enjoyed the all you can eat pancake breakfast.

This campground is so conveniently located: just a few miles from Mt. Rushmore and so many small towns with tons of charm and activities to enjoy. We easily could have stayed a full week and still not had enough time to do everything we wanted !

This Kampground must certainly be the crown jewel for KOA.

We stayed here when we were checking out Mount Rushmore, Hill City and Crazy Horse. They might have the cleanest bathrooms and showers I have ever seen. The WiFi didn't work great for us, which was only a problem because we work on the road — however Hill City was only a short drive with some cool cafés to work from.

Holy cow... this KOA is in an area where there's a million sites to see BUT there's so much to do at the KOA you may not want to leave.

The negative side is there is ZERO 3g available and the wifi is barely available and only at 2 "hot spots"

Probably great if you have an RV/Trailer and kids. Extremely crowded and dirty bathrooms.
On a positive it is very close to Mt. Rushmore and $3 all you can eat pancakes in the morning.

We stayed at this KOA for 4 nights. Definitely will never stay here again. First, we did not have any children with us. If you have kids you will probably like this place. It is like an amusement park and campground combined. It has nice facilities and is well maintained. We did not have any children with us, so for us it was very noisy, crowded (excited children running around and on bikes), ATV’s and cars constantly on the roads and smokey with all the campfires going every night (the campground is in a valley and the smoke has nowhere to go). The campground also advertised that it had WiFi and it does not. You can connect to their WiFi but it does not connect to the internet. We had to go into town to get an internet connection.

Not impressed - Considering the high daily cost, then add $10./day "resort fee" and $3./day pet fee - I just feel its ridiculous. Resort fee to use "their facilities" - showers, restrooms, pools etc - guess what - I have my own bathroom and shower and don't need a pool. I provide my own dog walking/care and poop bags - not sure why I need to pay $3.00. The most expensive, crowded, busy, loud KOA (or any RV park for that matter). Paid for a "deluxe patio" which was right across from the check-in lanes - traffic all day; right behind main building - garbage trucks, ATV/motorcycle rentals. Although wifi is stated at "limited" - they really mean non-exisitant.

We had a very positive experience and would definitely stay here again. We stayed in cabin #4 which was adorable with a full kitchen, bedding provided, and just far enough away from the noisy fun zone. My only suggestion is to be sure you plan in advance any hiking or sightseeing or visit the national and state parks visitors centers for information. The KOA surprisingly had no brochures or maps for the parks. They verbally gave us hiking suggestions and scribbled down some directions. Since there is no wifi you can't google anything once you are there. As long as you know this ahead of time and plan your outings in advance you'll be fine. The hiking to Harney Peak aka Black Elk Peak was amazing. It's long (about 7 miles round trip) but so worth it. Our 9 year old complained but she was so proud of herself when she made it to the top!

I have never stayed at a KOA by this is one must be the Disney of KOAs. We have the most basic cabin and it is adorable. We wish we could bring it home with us. And there is so much for the kids to do. Swimming pools, playgrounds, bouncy thing, putt putt, mining. And then there are activities all day. We ended up cutting down on some site seeing because the kids wanted to do activities here. My only complaint was that he previous campers where not leave no trace behind campers. I hate this. They dumped food outside and left wrappers and food all over outside. Come on fellow campers!!!
