“Missouri's first Renowned Cave!”
The Mark Twain Cave Complex boasts America's Oldest and Newest Show Caves. Mark Twain Cave is Missouri's first Show Cave. The cave was first shown in 1886 and is a Registered National Natural Landmark. We are located approximately one mile south of Hannibal on Highway 79. When you visit us you will find a wealth of fun and interesting things to do! We have ample parking and free picnic grounds. We welcome school groups and tour buses. Experienced guides will escort you on the 55 minute tour of Mark Twain Cave where the walkways are level and smooth, and there are no steps. Because of the natural state of our cave it is not wheelchair accessible. Our cave stays a constant 52 degrees year round! (A light jacket or sweater is recommended on the tours.) Please wear sensible walking shoes.
The lantern (flashlight) tour of the cave is awesome. No lights other than what we had in hand and no man made trail. Very exciting for our boys. Our guide was nice and educated but everyone else who worked there was less than pleasant.
Amazing Tour!!! I’m so glad we decided to take the advice from a remote from this app and stopped. One of THE best attractions in Hannibal. Definitely kid friendly too!
The campground is beautiful and well-shaded. Good amenities and only 6 minutes from Historic Hannibal. The sites are large but the campground is not too big.
DO THIS TOUR! We had Characters from the book as guides and they did scenes from the book. Was very interesting and neat to see. They also gave a lot of history of the cave. Well worth the admission price. The best part is when they turned out the lights and you could see just how dark that cave is.
Great place seeing
A fairly decent campground. Restroom were reasonably clean and the staff was OK. We loved the local attractions. The cave was great and visiting Hannibal and Lover's Leap were very nice and exceeded our expectations.
If you're a Mark Twain fan or have children then I would say this a great stop for you. It's well lighted and the path clearly marked. But if your a cave enthusiast, I fear you might be disappointed. I felt like its just another touristy cave.
Very cool tour! With the minimal lighting it was amazing to see all the signatures on the walls and imagine people exploring this cave 50 years ago without a tour guide, no thanks! :) bring a jacket-cool cave air!
Really interesting tour given by knowledgable and friendly guides. A leisurely walk with plenty of opportunities for pictures, and a quick retreat if you start to get claustrophobic. Bring a light jacket if you get cold easily, and wear shoes with good traffic because some parts can be slippery. I also recommend rereading the part of Tom Sawyer where they get lost in the cave to get a full appreciation of how this cave influenced Twain's story.
Great tour, cute gift shop. Neat cave!
