“located in the magnificent Wallowa Mountains”
Winter or summer you'll see views from the lodge of the magnificent Wallowa Mountains on the southern boundary of the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Just think of it. You can hike or snowshoe a short distance from the lodge right into the Eagle Cap Wilderness, Oregon's largest designated wilderness area, and you're a short drive from the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Much of that mountain wilderness lies within the 1200 square mile Wallowa Mountain range of spectacular northeastern Oregon as part of the 360,000 acre Eagle Cap Wilderness, an area with designated wild and scenic rivers like the Minam and Imnaha, 53 high mountain lakes, 540 miles of trails, granite crags, and steep-walled valleys formed by ancient glaciers. The lodge is also a short drive to Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America. It runs along the border of Idaho and Oregon and was cut by the Snake River. The Oregon rim of the canyon is more than a mile above the river and the Idaho rim measures 8000 feet from the top of He Devil mountain to the river bank. That is over 2000 feet deeper than the Grand Canyon!
