Kaaterskill Falls is a two-drop waterfall located near in the eastern Catskill Mountains of New York, on the north side of Kaaterskill Clove, between the hamlets of Haines Falls and Palenville in Greene County's Town of Hunter. The dual cascades total 260 feet (79 m) in height, making it one of the higher waterfalls in New York, and one of the Eastern United States' taller waterfalls. Kaaterskill Falls is the most popular trail hiked in the Catskill Mountains. On a weekend, thousands of people line the road to hike up to the base of Kaaterskill Falls. Usually, Lake Creek is at low water, and the view is disappointing. But, at high water you will see the same view as the pictures displayed below. High water usually comes after 4-5 inches of rain. The best photo opportunity is usually later in the day. The sun will shine up the Lake Creek Ravine later in the day. The upper part of Kaaterskill Falls is 167' high and the lower part of Kaaterskill Falls is 64' high. The most awesome view is from the base of the waterfall.

Beautiful short hike, with a waterfall and ability to swim. I come here often. Don’t be put off by the stories about fatalities. The truth is, the majority of those fatalities were due to individuals that found themselves trying to get the best social media picture.

Lot gets full and you may have to wait around for someone to leave but it’s really worth the trip

Simply beautiful. A bit of a tough start from the parking on 23 as you have to walk on the road to get to the trailhead. If you go in the winter which I highly suggest it you will need micro-spikes as it is very icy. Worth every step.
