“better than yo mama's!”
You want good food??? We got it!!! Fresh, home grown food, better than yo mama's. Taylor Bowen Ricketts is from Jackson, Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and an emphasis in Painting. Her culinary education began in her grandparent's Hammond, Louisiana kitchen with a baptism in classic Cajun and Creole recipes that permeate her menus. For Taylor cooking is truly another medium and creative outlet. She continues to immerse herself in both mediums, and her artwork is as much sought-after as her food. Bowen Ricketts regularly attends culinary classes and conferences at the Culinary Institute of America - Greystone in her quest to keep discovering foods and flavors that she brings home to share. Since 2008 she has been chef/proprietor of Delta Bistro where she weaves traditional Southern fare with global flavors for locals, far-flung visitors and such culinary celebrities as Ruth Reichl, Emeril Lagasse, John Folse and Thomas Keller. Taylor runs the kitchen with loud music and dedication to the community. She sources local ingredients and involves her staff, patrons and family in crafting an imaginative and kaleidoscopic menu that reflects her food philosophy. The"Daily Specials" at Delta Bistro have a fervent cult following on Facebook and Twitter. Taylor paints each item on her menu with flavor as well as color, and her zeal has won her invitations to culinary events. Taylor was a 2011 James Beard Awards "Best Chef - South" semi-finalist nomination.
Great find on our road trip. The atmosphere was as unique, creative and colorful as the food. Thanks for the heads up, Riadtrippers!
