“recognizing one of the most talented players in major league history”
This historic park is located on Greenville’s Westside in the Brandon Mill Community. Once part of a thriving textile mill complex, the original park/ball field was home to mill workers who played baseball and competed against other mill leagues across Greenville County. Shoeless Joe Jackson grew up in Brandon, played for the mill, and is eulogized today as one of most talented players in major league history. He is also remembered as one of the most controversial players and his involvement with the Black Sox scandal. The 8 acre park property was donated to the Recreation District in 1993 by Richard Heusel, owner of KM Fabrics Manufacturing. Other funding came from federal grants through the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority, a General Obligation Bond, PARD ( the SC bingo tax) and Recreation District self generated revenues. The park features a lighted baseball field, playground, and picnic shelter.
