“over 1,200 acres of natural lake to explore”
Portage Lakes State Park is located in Summit Co. between Akron & Canton. Some of the lakes, which total 1,200 acres, are natural, while others were reservoirs for the Ohio Erie Canal system. The Big Oaks Kids Zone offers a larged paved lot for kids to enjoy their bikes, roller skates and skateboards. A disc golf course and a dog park promise a fun outing for the entire family. Seven picnic areas at the Knapp Recreation area, Old Park area and Turkeyfoot Lake area offer tables & grills, and 3 picnic shelters are reservable. Turkeyfoot Lake offers a sand swimming beach and hiking trails. Rex Lake and Cottage Grove Lake have boat swim areas. Public ramps are on Long Lake, North Reservoir, Nimisila Reservoir & Turkeyfoot Lake, offering access for boaters. All types of boating, from 400 hp limit speed boating to canoeing, are available at various locations. Enjoy fishing from shore, the lakes, or wheelchair accessible area at North Reservoir. Anglers catch bass, walleye, muskie, pickerel & catfish. A valid Ohio fishing license is required. The campground at Nimisila Reservoir offers 6 campsites with electric hookups & 68 non-electric sites. Amenities are basic. Pets are permitted on designated sites. Two Tepees can be rented for unique camping adventures.

Only a tiny playground, no swimming, no drinking water, but good fishing. They have even corrected the address to the actual park. Go to
SUMMITMETROPARKS.ORG to make reservations and get address. Camping is BY RESERVATION ONLY! Clean pit toilets, dump station as you leave, ranger continually patrol the area. Just a nice little getaway close to town. 5 electric sites.

While $30 a night is a bit high for electricity only, the sites are level with a paved pad. They are large, you aren't on top if each other. Deep with water views. Easy access to boat/kayak launch onto the reservoir. It was so quiet and peaceful. There is no fresh water available but, there is a dump station on the way out.
Park used to be a state park, now run by Summit County Metro Parks. Rangers come by often and are very nice. There is a lot of bird watching and you will hear them through the day and sometimes night. Really a nice park. It will be our go to for when we visit family in NE Ohio.

We arrived late after dark, backed in thanks to a great assist by the wife. Due to a ditch it could have been an issue. Sites were well spaced for city area park. The park had water access and was overall well maintained.

For $30 plus tax, no electric, no water (anywhere) and outhouses only (no flush toilets or showers). Shocked by the lack of amenities for the price but the sites are big and the views beautiful. Would stay here again but only for one night at a time since I hate outhouses! Lol. We brought our blow up kayak and paddled during sunset.

Nimisila has been on my list for a long time and it did not disappoint!
Beautiful campground with mature pines, Reservoir access from many sites.
This is now my favorite campground east of the Mississippi.
Pros:
- Spacious sites
- Reservoir access from many sites
- Generator free means lots of quiet
- Birds! This park is know for birding and you can see and hear plenty.
- Rangers are awesome! Super friendly and very attentive. They patrol the park, regularly.
- Dump station
Cons:
- Few electrical sites
- No potable water or bath houses available
Remote work notes June 10, 2022:: Inside the camper I had download speeds of 58.9 mbps and upload speeds of 6.87 without using the booster and had great performance for Microsoft Teams and Zoom video calls all week. This campground does get Verizon UW 5G.
Note: Only a handful of sites are open during the shoulder season.

I have stayed here 2 times on site 20 with 30amp with my camper, 2 times in a primitive site with a tent. No loud partiers, awesome place to fish/ kayak , restrooms are just a compost type no running water at all . Never had any issues with anything. no check in really , back in set up and leave before 11. Nice flat asphalt driveway to park on . Highly recommended !!!

Nice level spacious site with easy access to the lake. Only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is the lack of fresh water and the duck hunting noise at 5:00am.

Decided to go on vacation after three years of trauma In our life (our son lost all four limbs) and a mistake was made on the date. While getting ready to go today seen this mistake and called, no refund, no reschedule, there was nothing they would do and nothing for us to do other than to pay again with a new reservation. I don’t think two nights here would be worth $140
Enjoyed camping here!
