“Complete with Van Gogh painting!”

The Big Easel project consists of a series of steel easels measuring 25 metres (80 feet high) and weighing 17,000 kilograms (45,000 pounds). The painting that rests on the easel is 7 metres x 10 metres (24 feet x 32 feet) These easels will eventually showcase the work of various local, national and international artists. Initially, a local artist would be commissioned to create the first painting on the easel. After a pre-determined amount of time, there would be a 'call for submission' across the state and/or country. At this time, a local 'Big Easel Committee' would select a new painting for the easel. The original work would be replaced by this new painting (by a different artist) and would be hoisted by crane and secured to the steel structure. We strongly believe that these sculptures will be completely unique in the world. The easel would not only stand as a landmark for the city, but would also be unique, as it would be ever changing. The monumental easel would remain constant, but the paintings on the canvas would always be different, year after year. As the easel would become increasingly well known throughout the world, the caliber of artists vying to create their own masterpiece would increase. Imagine the worlds most renowned artists getting an opportunity to place their own painting on these large easels. Depending upon the artist creating the image, each new painting would be entirely different in theme and style. It is our belief that the easel acts as an internationally recognized symbol of art. The easel can be found in every country on earth, and is used by the worlds artists regardless of their ethnicity, religious or cultural systems. The easel is not only revered as a symbol of 'high art', but, when constructed in this enormous scale, demonstrates a feeling of fun and intrigue. Adults as well as children love this enormous, unique landmark. Eventually, we will have numerous Big Easels around the world in order to establish a cultural exchange of artists and ideas.

Park in the front by the Rotary Club not where the app GPS takes you to save yourself a walk.

Well worth the few minutes detour off I-70. Flat and level walkway to reach it from the parking area; shorter walk if you park at the Rotary Club lot. It's been a few years since we were there, so I'm curious to see if they've changed the painting. I'll be driving I-70 again next month, so will stop and check it out. This project is such a great idea, and I hope they keep it up.

Made a quick pit stop after seeing the easel off I-70. Had fun taking "artistic" shots with the hubby. Not a bad stop for free entertainment.

Pretty neat stop. There is a dedicated parking lot right in front, a couple benches to rest, and a guest book to sign. Snapped some photos under the canvas and headed back out on the road! Glad we stopped here.

Loved this stop. Huge and beautiful and has a really interesting story behind it. I was planning on stopping and eating at a local restaurant in town but it seems everything had shut down by 8 on Wednesdays.

Pretty cool to see something so unique after so many miles of flatlands. I agree with Fireworks1082, don't turn on to Cherry Ave. Turn into the rotary viewing area.
