Baker and Shukson, this place was your standard National Forest campground in Washington, which is to say it was stellar. As usual, a road lines one side of the campground and a beautiful river the other.
We watched kingfishers swoop into the water and a sharp-skinned hawk Top Gun a little songbird. Autumn was setting in and the fiery vine maples mixed with yellow tinged alders and big leafs. But Mt. Baker is the real draw here. And the small town of Glacier in the other direction...what a gem!
Cell service exists, but is in and out and not good for much other than texting. Mt. Baker itself has four bars LTE, though.
The highlight of this campground though was definitely the host. Everything we could fit into was booked or taken, so I stopped him to ask about Razor Hone, the parking lot across the street.
"You don't want to stay there," and he directed us to the day use parking lot where we essentially got a super deluxe resort, complete with gazebo and fireplace, to call our own. Jealous eyes threw snarky glances and I loved it like a baby loves spaghetti all over his face.

We stayed here mid-May of 2021. The campground was really great. A little tight for our camper so anything bigger probably wouldn't fit. The host (Rick) was great. Very friendly and was helpful about giving advice on trails in the area. There is spotty cell service. I found if I stood at river edge, I could get a signal sometimes. If you go across the street to the Sno Park, you can get a pretty good signal, most likely from the ski area up the mountain a few miles.

Some campsites are tent-only, but not clearly identified as such. Site #14 should be ID'd as a tent-only site; we barely got our teardrop into the space (and off the road); and parked our truck alongside. Lovely huge forests make using solar powered systems a challenge; very little sun available for recharging. Lovely sites right on the river (most but not all).

Beautiful, cool, scenic. Hard to get reservations, but keep trying. It’s worth it!
