“a former quarry turned beach!”

White Star was a quarry operation for mining limestone. It was developed with Federal Land & Water Conservation Fund money and the sale of scrap metal from the site. The original 236 acres managed by the Park District was acquired in Jan 1975 through lease agreement with the state. The Park District took ownership in 1991.  Additional acres include: 336 acres acquired in 1995, 80 acres in 2000 with assistance of a donation from Don Miller ofFremont, 41 acres were added in 2002 with Clean Ohio Conservation Funds, and over 100 more acres were added in 2003 with Clean Ohio Conservation Funds. White Star Park received the Outstanding Park Area Development Award from the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association in 1981 and received the Lake Erie Buffer Award in 2002 from Soil & Water Conservation.

This is a nice little campground we stayed at for one night while traveling. The actual address of the campground is 910 S Main St (925 is the park across the street). It's about half tent and half electric RV sites. While we stayed, it looks like they are adding water lines to all the sites and a new bathhouse. As it stands, I dont think it was worth the $25/night, but will definitely be worth it once renovations are complete. The sites are very level and have plenty of room between them. 46 was nice b/c there's already a water spigot next to it for filling your tanks.

Would probably give 4 stars after renovations are complete!

We stayed here for one night while crossing the country. We were desperately in need of a quiet night and good sleep and we got it here. The park was dead empty when we got there, with just one other camper in the entire campground. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It might be a different experience during the busier summer season, but for us, it was just what the doctor ordered. Water/electric for $25 was perfectly reasonable.

Stopped for the night. Some sites 50 amp, others 30. All have water. Dump station and trash at entrance. Level, gravel spots. Grass, picnic table and fire pit. Quiet despite several families here on the weekend (other than the Friday night football game next door). No privacy, but good for the night. Saw park rangers and county sherrif drive through in the morning.

Nice basic county run park. We averaged $30 / night for E30. Lots are spacious, sunny, gravel, back-in. No blocks required to level which is always great! Only way to reserve is online or phone and there are NO refunds. Be aware that while they do have water hookups, you are advised NOT to drink the water due to high mineral content. The web site does point this out but it could be easily missed.

Sites in the area include Rutherford B. Hayes Library and Museum which also includes his residence, African Safari Drive Thru Park and Marblehead Lighthouse.

Great weather, very relaxing weekend. Campground was full. Had electric and water hookups although they advise you to not drink the water due to elevated mineral content. No sewer hookup. There are some grey water dumpsites scattered around but we did not use them. Dump station we did use on our way out. Trash on way out as well. Level gravel was great, angled sites made back-in not too bad, although our tow-behind is only 21' long. Wide grass lots. Fire ring and stationary picnic table. Sheriffs patrolled regularly, felt safe. Nearby Dollar General and Subway as well as small shops of Gibsonburg. Quarry very nearby but water temp still chilly. It has a sand beach and that part was packed. Purchased site online, very easy. Although they ask that you print a physical copy of the permit and place on the dash of your vehicle. Will be back for more relaxation for sure.

Stayed overnight. Wish we could’ve stayed another day. Our site was huge!
Water and electric.

Didn’t get a chance to check out the shower house. Seemed like a quiet place.

Our primary reasons for stopping here were that it was the right distance between other stops, and it was a convenient home base from which to visit the famous Magee Marsh in nearby Maumee.

Our site was a level pull-thru with elec only. Water fill was avail in the park as well as a dump station. Showers were decent with plenty of hot water. The campground was busy, but folks were quiet at night. There was a quarry across the road that offered a swim beach ($) and quarry scuba diving ($) in warmer weather. We got plenty of OATV reception. The 3-star rating is for elec only and the price for that, which we thought was a bit high.
