“two headed calf!”
Unfortunately, the World's Wonder View Tower has permanently closed.
We didn't stop because it wasn't at the exit that the map was showing us. We did see it a couple miles down the road but didn't bother by then.
Since no one has any recent updates, we thought we would check it. Unfortunately - it is still boarded up with no trespassing signs. Which is sad because I was definitely hoping to see a two headed cow.
Took a detour just to check it out even though it's closed. Parked along the fence then took some photos. Still pretty cool and interesting to see. Worth the 10 minutes just for the change in scenery on a long, boring I-70 drive
I stopped by here recently. It seems to be closed until further notice. I researched it a little bit and from what I read, the owner passed away a few months ago leaving the tower on a sort of hiatus.
After reading the prior comments, I did a quick internet check. Denver Channel 7 reported:
"Ever since Jerry Chubbuck passed away, the tower has sat idle. It's likely fading faster than any other building on Colorado's Eastern Plains.
"It's almost the last thing Genoa had," Blevins said. "And I think that's the real tragedy of it. That whatever brought people to town in the past – it's almost gone all together with the tower closed down."
An auction was held two weekends ago to sell off some of the items that were stored in the tower. Overall, Allen Chubbuck said 90 percent of the items were sold.
Allen Chubbuck said his family is considering selling the tower. His family is hoping someone who wants to carry on his father's legacy will purchase it and bring the tower back to life.
In the meantime, Chubbuck said another auction will likely be held next Spring to sell off whatever's left from inside the tower."
With 90% of the items sold, there is nothing really left to reopen.
I hope it reopens. Visited a few times in the last few years and the owner/curator was getting on in years. The tower itself was quite a death defying experience. A narrow and rickety ladder took you to the very top where, on a very clear day, it is said you can see seven States, i.e. The Wonder View. It was as teachers as it was beautiful at the top.
More oddities than you could absorb in merely one visit.
