“Unique Terrain and Break Taking Views!”
Palisades State Park, located in southeastern South Dakota in the town of Garretson, is the second smallest state park in South Dakota. At 157 acres in area, the park is quite small compared to the vastness of other state parks in South Dakota. Although compact in size, this park packs a powerful visual punch, and the history of the area—complete with larger-than-life legends and tales—more than compensates for its small size. The Coteau des Prairies, a flatiron-shaped plateau formed by glacial movement, is home to Palisades State Park. Known for its unique terrain and breathtaking views, Palisades State Park is a mecca for rock climbers, hikers, and campers.
A wonderful place to rest and rejuvenate on a long road trip. Well-tended campgrounds and unique geological features by the river. Short little hikes. I lay down on a rock and relaxed in the 3” of water that overflowed from the river.
This state park had some great hikes, though short- can do all of them in one afternoon. The park is super small, not a huge area for exploring. Campground itself was good enough, sites were well spread out and facilities were good. Shower wasnt hot but fine. Staff were helpful, and sites were flat and close to either a creek or the river. Overpriced for an unpowered tent site, in my opinion.
A really well-maintained state park. Visited here in early October of 2015 with my two-year old. Lots of place to run around, and very pretty scenic views of the rocks. I'd recommend stopping here for a picnic when on the road. It's a nice detour.
Great camp site, great locals, wonderful grocery store- so happy we made this stop!
Great camp site! Easy to get to. The locals were really friendly and their grocery store was fantastic.
Ditto on the last two reviews!
What a camp site!! Tent here is just awesome....
Stopped here for a picnic & stroll. Nice place.
I'd skip this place. Staff is friendly, but camp sites are over priced ($21). (We woke up to a loud train horn and a janitor coming to clean our fire pit early in the morning... Privacy?)
