Arctic Raven Gallery

Arctic Raven Gallery is a fine art gallery featuring Arctic and Northwest Coast Native work. We are located in “the heart of the Salish Sea,” in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in Puget Sound. Our collection of Northwest Coast Indian masks, wood carvings and prints represents local peoples including the Coast Salish, Kwaguilth, and Makah nations as well as the more northern Haida, Tlingit and Tsimshian. While Native Indian art in general is admired internationally, Indian carving from the Pacific Northwest has more recently gained acclaim world wide. From the sophistication of Haida form line to an intensely decorated Kwagiulth raven mask, Northwest Coast artwork is undergoing a rebirth. Master artists such as Susan Point, Robert Davidson and members of the Hunt family, are at the forefront of this revival and are showcased in our gallery. More fanciful than Northwest Coast art, we feature prints from the arctic and sculptures in stone, bone and ivory. The art work of the Inuit, Inupiat and Yup’ik natives portray a unique lifestyle adapted to the harsh northern environment. In particular, sculpture by the Inuit is well known and admired for its striking imagery and occasional humor. Highly collectible, Inuit art is displayed in museums and galleries throughout the world. The arctic raven, logo of our gallery, is the only bird which remains in the far north throughout the winter and thus has become a symbol for the resilience of the northern Native cultures.
