Bathrooms were clean and the whole area was quiet and beautiful. The campground was full when we arrived, but the rangers accommodated us in the primitive equine area which was lovely. We saw a javelina right outside our camp. This area offers easy access to McDonald Observatory and we highly recommend the night program. Online said there were no tickets, but we had no problem joining a program. I would absolutely stay here again.

Stayed at site 41. Very good spacing between sites. It was also quite level, asphalt. Restaurant available in the Lodge, but be sure to check their schedule. No cell service, but if you drive (or hike) to the top of the Skyline Drive there is good strong service. Great trails, very scenic. Nice weather in April.

We got so lucky to grab a 9 nite cancellation and enjoyed staying here very much. The area has much to do ie:Davis Mountains Scenic Drive, hiking in abundance, the McDonald Observatory (get tickets in advance for tours), day trips to Marfa or Alpine if your route doesn't go thru them, bicycling, the historic Fort Davis National Site, the cute little town of Fort Davis, and there's a dude ranch right up the road if that's your thing.
Make sure to go check out the Indian Lodge within the park, it's really cool! And keep an eye out, you'll likely see wildlife. We saw deer, javalina, and tons of birds--it's one of those TX birding parks.
I'm surprised anyone reports cell service. Our Verizon worked well on the top of the scenic overlook, but in the CG nothing. They do have a free public WIFI, but I didn't use it, so can't report.
The shower house was fine and while the lighting in it was dim, I think thats because this is a Dark Sky Park. The stars here a phenomenal!
The power was clean, water pressure was high, and the sewer HU was not really useful because "it doesn't flow uphill". We used blocks to level our site-no big deal.

I work remote - so cell service is an absolute. Previous review said att had 3 bars - I should have noted it was in 2018! No cell service to speak of (wife has verizon - and she was at zero as well) - but a GREAT site and I'll be back when I can vacation.

The good: Nice and quiet on weekdays...not so on weekends.
Excellent trails right from the park and your camp site.
Close by to other interesting attractions. The Fort, McDonald observatory.
Bad: No cell service period. Rest rooms were iffy and the women's was cold water only.

This was our first visit to this state park. Site 15 is a pull thru site with electric, water and sewer. All worked well. It was not heavily shaded but the picnic table has a roof over it for shade. The sites opposite us (such as 3 or 4) provided a little more shade during the day. The pad is asphalt and was fairly level. As others have noted, no cell service or wifi. The Interpretive Center does have wifi which you can access inside (when it's open) or outside if closed. We did tours at McDonald Observatory, drove up the Skyline Drive and hiked the Montezuma Quail trail (nice views overlooking the campground). We saw deer, a javalina and a number of colorful birds we've never seen in the Houston area at our camp site. There are two bird watching areas where they have a number of bird feeders out which was nice.

This park is well kept, clean and maintained and can accommodate large rigs 40+ feet.. Very cool breeze at night in summer with lots of places to visit nearby. Be aware that one side of the park (backup sites) has power & water only with dump station on the way out. The other side has full hookups w/sewer (pull thru sites) and worth it if staying a week or more. Hiking trails can be taken from the campground, some easy and others difficult. Dogs are allowed on trails, but to much for smaller dogs to do. The town of Ft. Davis is 20 min. away for supplies and gas. A must do is the McDonald Observatory for star gazing and awesome views. No cell/internet reception in campground, but very good in town on ATT & T-Mobile. One last thing, the entrance from the road is at the top of a hill and you can pass it if going to fast up the hill.

The park rangers were exceptionally friendly. They recommended that we go up to the top to see the sunset, which I highly recommend. What a lovely view. Wish we’d had time for a hike or two. Our stay was short, but we’ll be back for sure. We didn’t get a chance to go to the observatory but we did visit the lovely Indian Lodge.
The sites were nicely spaced apart with ample room for our trailer and truck. Our site had a lovely shade tree. Bathrooms were clean. We’ll be back!

Park is amazing, great trails. Park keeps a rustic view. Sites are clean. The stars in Texas are truly big and bright in this area which has almost no ambient lights. When we were there over labor day there was little to no camp noise.
