Key lime pie is the most iconic dessert in the Florida Keys dating back to being made in the early 20th century and named after the small key lime fruit that naturally grows throughout the region. Our key lime pie recipe dates back to the 1980's when a man named Jeff Rowe opened the Key West Key Lime Pie Company. In 2000, Jeff was looking to sell the business. A man named Jim Brush was interested, but they couldn’t settle on a price and Jeff closed the business. One day Jim went by and he saw that the lights were out in Jeff’s shop and the doors locked. Jim called the landlord and was able to purchase some assets that had been abandoned. In 2006, Jim opened up a new business in a new store front with the Key Lime Pie Company name and took off running with the company, quickly tripling the number of wholesale customers and shipping all over the continental U.S. As business was expanding, Jim opened up three locations - 2 in Key West and one in Big Pine Key. He needed some additional business guidance and reached out to entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis and star of the CNBC show “The Profit.” Jim and Key West Key Lime Pie Company were featured on “The Profit” in 2014 and the partnership began. In 2015 Marcus purchased Jim’s share of the business and has continued its legacy of hand-making the 100 year old recipe fresh daily using all-natural ingredients, real key lime juice, and a handmade graham cracker crust. In 2016, a natural partnership was formed with Sweet Pete’s Candy, one of Marcus’ other businesses featured on The Profit. Headquartered in Jacksonville Florida, Sweet Pete’s manufactures a line of handcrafted quality chocolates and sells over a thousand different types of candies. Sweet Pete’s in Jacksonville has a fully functioning factory with an interactive gallery, and holds tours and candy making classes daily.
