The perfect romantic place to cuddle up with someone special, unwind, and watch the sun set as sailboats glide by... all without the crazy circus of Mallory Square. It doesn't get any more romantic in this crowded city. Nature trails, 1866 fort with a real moat, beaches, snack stand. The beach area is the southernmost point in the continental US accessible to the general public, regardless of what the famous buoy at the corner of Whitehead and South Streets says.
We explored the park in March 2018 during a trip to Key West. It's one of the only actual beaches in the area and the camping areas are amazing. This spot is the spot that makes me want to run out and Airstream and drive all the way to Fort Zach (from MO) and live there for a month!
We LOVE the beach! It reminded us of the beach in Mexico. It was gorgeous! Not too crowded and there are trees for shade. There is a fee to get in the park, but it was only like $6. Well worth it. We will be back!
