Cathedral Pines Campground

Let's start off by saying it's a nice place. All sites are level and appear to have been racked after the last camper left. Bathrooms at our end of camp are all private and each includes a toilet, sink w/mirror and a shower stall. Laundry on site.
Nice view of lake with a swimming beach. Tall pines surround each site so solar may be tough. Site includes concrete fire pit/box and a picnic table. Our site was 30 amp with water.
Oh did I mention you'll be knee deep in red squirrels.

This is a fairly large campsite, but with extremely nice, large lots in a tall pine tree forest. This is one of those beautiful camping experiences you hope to get with your RV. The wind blowing through the tall pines creates this noticeable somewhat therapeutic sound coming from the forest.. The water front sites back on to a beautiful completely unoccupied lake with mountains in the background... just brilliant!

When walking about the campsite it was clear that there are many families, with many children playing, thus it is very family friendly with playgrounds and facilities, but the sites being so large and nestled in the trees - you still had that quiet serene experience.

Since we booked at the last minute as a stop on the way to Bar Harbor coming from Canada.. we booked 2 different sites for the two nights (site 56 on night 1, site 65 on night 2) since the waterfront site we were able to get on night 2 was not available on night 1 - but that was ok.. both sites were amazing ... Ironic that this was meant as a stop on the way, and ended up being the nicest place we stayed in the whole trip.

I will say that it was a bit tricky backing in my 34 foot trailer on site 56.. less so on site 65... both sites were huge, but there are pine trees in awkward spots that made jack knifing the trailer into the site tricky.. but certainly doable, and worth it

We came here because people talked about the wonderful campground. It sure is - spacious sites in the tall pines with electric and water. Most sites have lots of spacing between the next site. The best sites are in the center of the campground and towards the water away from the Route 27. There are about a ½ dozen sites right as you enter. Not sure why people would pick them – no privacy, near the road and right in front of the office. Beyond that are about ½ dozen sites in the trees with full hook ups, but I will assume those are seasonal. There are a few other seasonal looking trailers scattered around the campground. For the most part it’s folks who would be considered transients.

We were on the road to the campground beach and launch site. The sites on the left side of the road tend to slope down a bit. We probably had the sunniest site in the , 12A . Not being hot, it was fine. The site was convenient to the beach and boat launch.

There are not a lot of lights in the campground. It’s very peaceful and quiet too. It was early September but the campground was pretty full.

The bathrooms are very clean and the section we saw had individual bathrooms that contained a shower, toilet and sink.

It appears this is a popular campground for folks who spend a week or more here. There is a recreation hall for children, a playground, basketball court, corn hole court, and a lovely recreation hall for adults with puzzles, games, and books. The beach is small gravel and it’s a gradual slope into the water. There are scenic views of the Bigelow Range from the beach.

We had two bars of Verizon that were slow. When we hooked up the Weboost we went to three or four bars with quicker downloads. There are two wifi sites in the campground, near the Adult Rec Hall and at the Office. The one at the Adult Rec hall was inconsistent. The one near the office was good.

There is a gas station just after the entrance to the campground. There is also a small market there. Fotters, in Stratton, before the campground (about 3 miles) is small, but had everything we needed – fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, and a variety of breads.

Pick up the lime green little pamphlet at the campground office about the area. You can paddle from the beach at the campground; it’s an easy put in. You can head to the left up the North Branch of the Dead Creek to the dam. Or, head south to the South Branch of the Dead Creek and paddle until the current is too much or the water is too shallow. There are consistent warnings to paddle in the morning and beware of the wind building after lunch. Another area to paddle is the Chain of Ponds near the Canadian border. On the way to Rangeley Lake, is a lovely spot called Quail Hill, that offers spectacular views of the area – do not take your trailer or a large RV. Rangeley Lake is about half hour away and offers more tourist amenities. IF you like to hike then the Bigelow Range offers some serious day hikes.

We stayed only one night, but wouldn’t mind at all if we stayed longer. The site was level and quite private. We weren’t able to stay in a lake front sit, but ours was very close to the lake that came with a slight view of the water. There’s a gate that locks between 8 pm and 8 am. You can get a key card with a $10 deposit. The lake is beautiful and the campground was very quiet. It was also very easy to find.

We stayed in site 21 on the lake, and it was so beautiful! The lakeside sites are big and private, also level. All sites are sand. It is a big campground but planned well so you hardly realize how big it is. Our site had electric and water hook ups and there is a dump station. The campground also has laundry facilities and bath houses. We did not use either so I can comment on the quality or cleanliness. The water pressure at our site was a bit low, but not a problem. We bought firewood at the campground office,but it wasn’t well-seasoned and didn’t burn well. Staff was friendly and helpful! Would definitely go back and plan a longer stay.

Cathedral Pines is a great family RV park. Sites are big and level, and as well-spaced as you could reasonably ask for. Bathhouses are clean and well-kept; there are wi-fi hotspots on the campground, although it is unlikely that you would get wi-fi at your site. The park is located in a beautiful stand of red pines on the shore of lovely Flagstaff Lake, and offers a large selection of paddle craft for rent at reasonable rates, right on the (unguarded) beach. The beach, by the way, has a sandy bottom and a gradual drop-off, along with a dock out into the water for jumping off -- again great for kids. The playground entertained our six-year-old grandson, and there is also a rec hall with a variety of games for those rainy days. Hiking opportunities abound in the nearby Bigelow Range. The staff was uniformly courteous, cheerful and helpful. One could easily enjoy a week or more at Cathedral Pines.
