“religious home of Koreshanity”
Visit Koreshan State Historic Site, throughout its history, Florida has welcomed pioneers of all kinds. Cyrus Reed Teed was probably the most unusual, bringing followers to Estero in 1894 to build New Jerusalem for his new faith, Koreshanity. The colony, known as the Koreshan Unity, believed that the entire universe existed within a giant, hollow sphere. The colony began fading after Teed´s death in 1908, and in 1961 the last four members deeded the land to the state. Today, visitors can fish, picnic, boat, and hike where Teed´s visionaries once carried out survey experiments to prove the horizon on the beaches of Collier County curves upward. A boat ramp and canoe rentals are available. Visitors can take self-guided tours of the settlement or a ranger-guided tour. For overnight stays, the park has a full-facility campground. Campers can enjoy campfire programs every Saturday night from January through March.

There is always something for everyone to do. Very educational for all ages. There are museums and guided tours which are very informative.
The park also contains playgrounds, picnic areas to sit and enjoy a home made meal and clean restrooms.
While you walk, you can listen to a variety of birds singing at the wooden environment and you can even stop for fishing!
Great escape for the whole family!!!
I had reserved 5 nights here and only stayed 1. I just didn't like it and life it too short. I might end up being the only reviewer who didn't like this park. Site #42 was so tight, I can't believe I backed the trailer into the space. Just walking around the campground, it appeared to me that almost all of the sites are very tight. The roads within the campground are fairly narrow.
I wanted to like this park, because on Sunday, they had a great little farmers market within walking distance of the campground.

My site was awesome because it was handicap accessible - asphalt pad with a concrete patio. Most sites are sandy. Roads can be narrow. All new electric and water - December 2016. Dense foliage between sites. The park was going to burn it off when it was closed to upgrade the elec/water but it never got done. I liked the privacy. Well run State Park with a historical village, farmers market, and other planned activities.
My husband and I could ride our bikes to Publix or Coconut Point for stores, restaurants and a theater.

The campground here is just okay. Most sites are narrow and full of deep sand. We heard that the electric and water hook-ups were recently dug up and re-done (12/16) and that was the reason for the soft sand. I'm sure they will get better over time, but for now, watch out you don't get stuck! Some privacy between sites, and a few that were fairly long, but overall the sites were on the smaller side. We barely had room to tuck our truck in sideways in front of the trailer.
The historic part of the park is much better than the actual campground in my opinion. Back in the early 1900s, this was the site of a utopian, self-contained community that created extensive gardens and buildings that are still standing today. As a camper, you can visit the settlement for free and during daylight hours you can even peek inside some of the homes and businesses.
It was worth a stay to see the historic settlement, but I wouldn't make a return visit for the campground alone.

Price paid is Florida Senior Resident rate. Campground was in a good location to visit the Corkscrew Swamp (approx. 30 miles away) plus Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge (approx. 25 miles). Also very close to Publix, shopping, & restaurants, which also means lots of local traffic.
Sites are on the narrow side with dirt & sand. Staff is very helpful. We took the tour for the Koreshan settlement located at the park. Well worth doing. Plus a small farmer's market on Sunday mornings. We were able to increase our Verizon cell service to 3 bars with our booster.

Nice campground overall. Easy access. Quiet yet close to lots of activities, roads and stores. A small amount of road noise. It has some easy walking trails and an interesting park all along a river. The park rents kayaks. Bathrooms were just ok. Need updating. Rangers all very nice.
Spaces are pretty private and some a bit tight. We did need to use levelers. All gravel and sand. Might not be the best for really big rigs. Saw lots of turtles and bunnies!

Very nice state park. Most sites are secluded, separated by brush. Very interesting history of the Koreshan commune. We recommend the guided tour ($5). Grab a kayak ($15 first hour, $10 thereafter tandem) and paddle down the gentle Estero River for a unique Jurassic Park feel. We love our time here. Water and Electric only, dump station on site. Everything is within walking distance. Lovely park.

This is a serene campground with lush, tropical vegetation and lots to do. We only were able to stay for one night, but would absolutely have stayed longer if possible!

Sites were very tight and close together, but they were separated by lots of vegetation. All sites had paths to restrooms, which could use some updating. Laundry and book exchange. Lots of history and trails. We rented a canoe and spent a couple hours on the River. We saw lots of turtles, armadillos and rabbits.

The tight, mostly sand back in spots are more than worth the trouble with all you can do here. A jungle setting with incredible plant and wildlife, the historic Koreshanity Settlement tour and a great trail system to bike/walk. Also, from what I hear, great kayaking.
Laundry and showers are showing their age, but easily accessible + recycling. The dump station was crude but functional, just not much of a pull over to allow vehicles to go around you.
Some of our neighbors were able to back in 35 foot+ 5th wheels but the vertical overgrowth poised some serious issues based on your spot. Easy place to take a solar panel or roof top antenna off so be cautious.
