Established in 1976 for the nation's Bicentennial, Heritage Walk displays buildings preserved from Escondido's early days. The structures were rescued from demolition and relocated to the park, where they serve as Escondido's historical museum complex. Also included on Heritage Walk are: a windmill moved from a ranch on North Broadway in 1976; a farm sculpture designed by Joyce Malcom in 1980; a time capsule buried on October 8, 1976, by the Escondido Bicentennial Committee to be opened on October 8, 2076; a tank house built by Reverend Hoffmann to provide running water and store household equipment; and an herb garden reminiscent of the kitchen gardens in early homes in Escondido
