“primitive, rustic campground capitol state forest”
This primitive, rustic campground is located about 30 miles from Olympia. It is set in the Capitol Forest along the shore of Porter Creek and is managed by the Department of Natural Resources. It offers trails for hiking, horseback riding, or motorbikes. The camp serves as a launch point for a variety of trips. Most campers take the 0.5-mile trail to Porter Falls, departing from the trailhead just across the road. Within three miles, you can also access trails that lead to a network of 87 miles of off-road vehicle trails and 84 miles of trails for non-motorized use—mountain biking is popular here. With corrals and hitching posts available, this camp is popular among horseback riders. There are 16 sites for tents or RVs up to 16 feet (no hookups). Picnic tables and fire grills are provided. There is no drinking water, and garbage must be packed out. Vault toilets, corrals, hitching posts, and horse-loading ramps are available. All-terrain vehicles are permitted. Some facilities are wheelchair accessible. Leashed pets are permitted. Reservations are not accepted. There is no fee for camping. Open May–November, weather permitting.
Once we "think" what was the trail, The hike was ok. The trail was not labeled anywhere and we did end up trying to hike up what we thought was a path by the bathrooms, but it was short lived. Not a long hike, but a one way dead end, up some fun hills type of hike. Took my 12 year old to see the water falls, but they were few to see and they were quite small. The trail has some areas that make it confusing to what path to take because its not kept up that great. Once we did get to the falls it was ok to relax for a bit and rest. You have to go out the same way you go in.
