This is the second time we have stayed at this campground and we have enjoyed both visits. Amenities include; full hookups at all but a couple of sites, wifi, private fishing lake, nice centrally located shower house, small kids playground, and laundromat. Most of the sites are pull through and are very easy to get into and out of. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
I would say this campground is best for those looking to overnight as travel down either 57 or 70. We have stayed here a couple of times because we really like the nearby firefly grill (http://ffgrill.com), but outside of fishing and short walks there isn't a great deal to do at the park.

This is a small campground situated next to a lake. The site we stayed at was all gravel but there were also concrete pads and some grass available. It was fine. All sites are shaded with mature trees. We had full hookups. There’s fishing and a boat ramp if you’re into that. There are also other amenities but we are self isolating in the era of Covid. Dog friendly. It’s close to I -57.

If you are looking for a stopover near Effingham, this campground is fine. It was pouring rain the night we stayed, so I chose an “ultra premium” site with a new concrete pad (there’s 4 of these in the campground, the rest are gravel). But the gravel ones actually
looked level and weren’t muddy, so those would have been fine too. There’s a trailer park nearby and some seasonals in the park, but don’t let that deter you. You can tell that the owner does take some pride in the park. It’s an older park with mature trees, but they’ve done some landscaping here and there to spruce it up. Most sites are very close to each other with some exceptions. To my surprise, there is a small old metal out building that was converted into a full bar with video gaming - open to campers and locals until 10 pm. We didn’t visit, but in the morning I peaked inside and it actually looked pretty nice inside. There was one loose stray dog running around, so be aware if you have pets. WiFi worked very well for us.

Very clean, well kept park. Close to the interstellar and major roads, close to stores and restaurants, but far enough to not hear any of it. Sites are almost all full hook ups, with cable TV, camp store, boat ramp, and a community grill and community fire ring for groups. Staff is very friendly, greeting you as they are out and about. Full service lounge onsite, a great bonus.

We stop here several times a year heading North and we usually stay 1 night. This year due to Covid we spent 3 nights due to our next park was delayed in opening. We love this campground there are a few spots on the water and some on a nice cement driveway. They have grills you can use, a nice Laundry room and nice clean bathrooms with great music playing.
We fish on the lake you can Kayak if you want. Not good for swimming.
The bar has Pizza (love the bacon chicken Ranch) and they serve & drinks. It's a fun little place to stop over you don't hear traffic it's off the highway a few miles.
Close by a Walmart, gas, eats, grocery and more.

This is a popular campground for those passing through. We and several others stayed multiple days and every day there would be about 8 rigs come in and leave the next morning. It’s a well kept campground on a small lake with all gravel, the grass is over by the lake. The sites are relatively level, ours was very level and pull through. A few sites are concrete pads. The staff is very friendly and helpful, guide you to your site, and they even give fresh baked cookies to their guests upon arrival! They have Wi-Fi that worked for looking things up - we always use our own internet for work. The laundry room is clean and has 3 washers and dryers in excellent working condition. The bathrooms are clean with showers. They have a camp store with all the basics, but if you can’t find what you need Walmart is a mile away, can walk it comfortably. This was a very pleasant stay for us and we would definitely stay here again!

We were looking for a place to get away, and Camp Lakewood was perfect. We weren’t in the area for anything in particular, and just wanted somewhere to get out with the camper.
Spot 1A is a full hookup back in spot, with 30 and 50 amp service. It is gravel, but generally level. I only had to make a slight adjustment to get completely level. This spot is one of the higher priced spots due to the view of the lake and private fishing spot. It was also equipped with a charcoal grill, small fire ring, picnic table and wooden chairs. If I were being overly picky, I’d say the sewer hookup is a bit high for most campers. This is manageable though, and the view of the lake was worth dealing with this minor issue.
Unless you are just stopping in for a night, I would avoid any of the spots toward the entrance (along north side). These spots back right up to a fence that separates the campground from a trailer park. If you’re staying a few days, try and get closer to the lake.
Staff was very nice, and helpful. There’s a camp store with most of what you may need, but Walmart is also just around the corner too. The park was clean, and you can tell the ownership cares.
Some reviews mention you can’t hear road/city noise, but if you’re right on the lake, you will. This did not detract from our experience, but if you’re looking for the “secluded” experience, you might be disappointed.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay at Camp Lakewood, and we would absolutely stay again.

We stayed a total of 4 nights. Don’t bother with the premium sites, not worth it. One of the premium sites was right next to a game room, another building and had zero shade. Laundry and bathrooms were clean, would have been nice to be air-conditioned on extremely hot day. All of the picnic tables need replacing.
