“rich in Native American history”

Rich in Native American history, Edisto Beach on Edisto Island is one of four oceanfront state parks in South Carolina. Edisto Beach State Park features trails for hiking and biking that provide a wonderful tour of the park. The park’s environmental education center is a “green” building with exhibits that highlight the natural history of Edisto Island and the surrounding ACE Basin. For overnight accommodations, furnished cabins sit nestled in the woods, and campsites can be found along the Edisto Island oceanfront or in the shaded maritime forest.

Has nice trails and a VERY secluded beach. There is a charge to get in and you can't park anywhere else.

Beautiful park and the sites are alittle private in the Live Oak section. The beach section is the place to be if you want beach access. This is great gem on the coast.

I spent a couple of nights in the marsh section of the state park. When I called ahead, they said the beach section was fully booked, but when I got there, many sites were vacant. Not sure what the deal was. Either way, the marsh section is less than a 5 minute drive way and your camping pass is good to park at the beach area. Obviously, if you can get a beach site, go for it simply for the access to the beach. That said, the marsh section is a great woodsy, shady spot to be at too.

All of the sites had water and electrical hook ups. I know there were bath houses, but I did not use so I can't speak to the cleanliness. All of the sites seemed to be easily accessed and had a picnic table.

This would be a great place to bring bikes and tour around the island. Lots of great beach to wonder on.

Stayed 3 nights over the Christmas holiday and had a wonderful time. Beach camping sites are just over the dune from the beautiful long and sandy beach, unless you're at the very end of the beach campground, in which case it's an easy walk across the campground road. Access to the beach is easy from any campsite, and the surf heard everywhere in the campground.

If you're unable to grab a beach campground site, the other marsh campground is just up the road, but we found it to be a little closed and cramped for our 28' travel trailer. The cottages are also in the marsh campground and looked to be quite spacious and lovely with amazing views of the marsh. Quick drive to the beach, your pass gets you a parking spot in the public park adjacent to the campground.

Facilities were typical state park campground, fairly/mostly clean, with good hot showers inside and a few outdoor showers for washing off the sand. The water here is very salty, not something you're probably going to want to run through your trailer/rv, so come prepared with drinking water and a full tank.

Dump station is across the street from the marsh campground and a one-at-a-time affair, go in off times or you'll wait.

Some walks through marsh and along the beach are all the hiking that's to be had. There's a loop road around the island that's a nice walk or bike ride. It's a pretty low key destination, very uncommercial, although there are a few restaurants and a grocery across from the park entrance (easy walk) with ice and a water station. Great spot to getaway and stay away for awhile.

A couple of things to note. Edisto Beach is not really close to anything which is part of it's appeal. The live oak campground was nice, shrouded by live oaks with spanish moss hanging and .... mosquitos. Lots and lots of mosquitos. The sites along the marsh are nice and private with a good view, the road around the campsite is really narrow so please be careful as you drive through that you dont hit a tree (seriously). Nice big bathhouse. The beach is actually across the road and down the street, as is the dump station, but plenty of parking at the beach. There is a campground on the beach side, but I didnt like it because it felt like they were parked out in a parking lot - not a lot of privacy from your neighbors.

Go to Whaley's for lunch, go see the haunted church, and watch the sunset and dolphins at beach entrance 37.

This is our first time back posy hurricane Irma; the beach campground was all but destroyed. They've done a great job cleaning it up and ahead of schedule. They had to create a large dune separating the campground from the beach which is unfortunate but I understand why they did it. We'll be back.

The park is divided into 2 separate parks with 2 separate entrances about a 3/4 mile apart. Only 1 is ocean front which is where we stayed. Very laid back beach. This is the way the beach is meant to be. If you like all the commercial atmosphere like Myrtle Beach this is not for you, but if you like to just relax listen to the waves and pick up shells this is your spot. Very family friendly area. The only reason I can’t give this park 4 stars is because there is no dump station in the park. You have to leave the park and get back on the main road and drive about 1/2 mile which is kind of bummer. But the bath houses are very clean which makes the situation a whole lot more bearable. I would stay here again and highly recommend.

There are two different campgrounds that are part of Edisto State Park - Live Oak and Beach. We like them both! The Live Oak Campground is a short drive away from the beach. However, it is on the marsh with incredible views and live oaks. There are also biking/hiking trails to explore.

The Beach Campground will forever spoil your beach camping. There is a marsh on the back side of the campground and the beach on the front side. It's amazing to be sitting outside of the RV listening tot he waves. The bath houses are always clean, but they are a little dated.

There is a grocery store directly across from the Beach Campground and a few good restaurants and bars to explore nearby. Botany Bay is a super cool spot to check out as well!

One tip - the water is very very salty. Come prepared with water in your tank or bottled water. Also, don't let any of the Edisto water get into your holding tank if you can help it - we did and it took a little bit to flush it out!

We have stayed in several sites:

Live Oak:

111 - shady spot not too far from the bath house which was nice. The spots across from this site have a better view of the marsh, but you can still see it through their camp sites. This site is kinda on a corner so it is a little busier.

119 - a nice shady spot that is more private than 111. A little further walk to the bath house, but still not bad. The sites across from these (116-122) have a little better view

Beach:

47 - this spot doesn't have much shade, but you can catch a glimpse of the ocean from inside your RV! How awesome is that?? Really close the bath house as well as the beach access. Great spot!

46 - this site is right across from the other site we were in. We were excited to be able to book this one! Still close to the beach access and the bath house, but it backs up to the marsh for awesome sunset views!

23 - not much shade in this part of the campground, but it seems to often have a better breeze! You can see the sand dunes from here as well. A little further walk to the beach access and bath house, but still awesome. You can't go wrong here!

33 - kinda the same as above. A little further to the bath house and beach access than 46/47 but still closer than 23. Not as much privacy in this part of the campground (the inner circle), but you are able to sit outside the RV and listen to waves. Seriously can't go wrong here!

We planned to stay here over New Years Eve hoping for some sunshine and respite from Ohio and the holidays. It was very dence fog two out of our four days which was a bummer but the beach, the campground and location were all great. Forewarning, the drive in is a little daunting. Many of the “homes” are littered with trash piles and look less than savory, it was a little off-putting. Once on Edisto Island the low key “resort” vibe kicks in. In general there isn’t much to do besides walk the beach for shells, ride the bike trail or hit up the handful of ok shops and restaurants. We had breakfast one morning at SeaCow, it was pretty good!
Our campsite was in the beach campground (not the wooded campground) it was level enough for our rig, backed up to the salt marsh and wa surrounded by palm and other vegetation which made it very private. We also didn’t have any immediate neighbors. Mostly retired couples or families, lots of pups! Water was super salty but fine, electric fine. Didn’t use the facilities at all and rarely saw any staff besides the gate attendant who was nice! We were about 50ft from the beach in site 52 (one of the best site in our opinion) Shell hunting and beach sitting at its finest! We’d stay again if it were along our route but not for 4 days and not as a destination in itself

This is a worthy stop or stay for just about anyone. We loved the beach, the staff, the fact that our dog could run on the beach, so close the beach.
Bring your own drinking water because theirs is quite salty which is the only reason I gave them only 4 stars.
We were there on our way down to Florida and stayed there on the way back.
In hindsight, we should have skipped Florida and relaxed more here.
