Black Hills Ordnance Depot - The Black Hills Ordnance Depot was established and built in 1942 to help with the military's increased ordnance needs caused by the Second World War. It was also used for the testing and storage of chemical weapons like Sarin and Mustard Gas. The residential area of the base was named Igloo and had a church, hospital, school, post office, theater, and more. During the 1950's, Igloo had a population of 1,800. The Black Hills Ordnance Depot was closed in 1967, and with it, Igloo and the base became abandoned. Most of the former housing units in Igloo were removed, though the church and other buildings still remain, falling into decay.
