“perfect for cool summer nights”

Just a short drive from this mountain sports town and the depot for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, the Durango KOA provides a panoramic view of the jagged San Juan Mountains. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, this pinon-shaded campground atop a mesa makes for comfortably cool summer nights. In season, wake up to buttermilk pancakes or strawberry & cream waffles served at the Kaboose Kafe every morning. In the evening, fresh-made pizza can be delivered to your site. The dessert bar has sundaes, root beer floats and fresh baked pies. Enjoy nightly movies, weekly duck races, mini golf, a heated pool and kids' activities. Lodging includes basic Cabins to the all-out comfort of Deluxe Cabins. Several outfitters guide kayak/whitewater raft outings on the Animas River. Make Durango KOA your base camp for Mesa Verde National Park, only an hour's drive away. Pool: May 27 - September 15. Max pull thru: 100 feet. Your hosts: Jay & Carol Coates.

This campsite was nice, and everyone was really nice. They always had something planned for the kids at the end of the day, when everyone came back from the daily fun. Also really close to town. Interned worked good. The only down side was the TV cable you had to install yourself.. If you are into watching tv while you camp.

I don't often camp in RV parks. This KOA was a pleasant surprise.
Many of the sites have trees around them. The grounds are well manicured with lots of flowers. There is even a herb garden open for campers to use.
There are two dog runs for different size dogs. They even allow dogs in the ditch/stream.
One surprise was that they cook pizzas and deliver them to your site. No doubt a bonus for families.
The one downside is the noise from the highway.
That said, the hosts are really nice, and willing to deliver propane tanks back to your site.

We needed a night in Durango as we were passing through...got their last site that would fit us. Only downside was we were right behind the store/bathroom/shower, so we had a lot of people walking through our site at all hours vs a few steps either direction that would have been more courteous. Beggers can't be choosers I guess.

We had the pie/ice cream combo...yum. Breakfast was pancakes and waffles for a fee...wasn't cheaper than going to a McD's, but more convenient. There was a dog run, a 'gold mine' think for the kids, the pool was heavily used but not out of control. Lot's of tents which surprised me...I'm not a KOA frequenter but expected RV's. I'm in a tear drop.

Showers were good...a little outdated by the standards I'm seeing at other RV parks. More showers than bathroom stalls, so there was a morning wait to do your business.

All in all a nice place, nice people. Caters to families.

Friendly, happy hosts who aren’t faking their way through it extended us a 10% discount since we were technically evacuees of the 416 wildfire north of Durango. There are big rig spots that resemble the normal pack ‘em in style of most RV parks, but most of the sites are relatively spacious and have a few ash junipers separating one another. The entire place has a summer camp vibe, with kids running loose, the pool splashing away, the smell of pizza wafting through what–if all of La Plata County didn’t smell like a campgire–would have been the faint smell of those beautiful big arm, climbable junebabies, and additional fun stuff like ice cream, recycling, compost bins, and sometimes a kids movie in their pavilion.

You can scoot to Durango, one of the best towns in these United States, in about ten minutes or less by car.

The only particular issue I found was, one night as I sat up late inhaling wildfire smoke and contemplating the percentile loss of solar power based on the continuous haze of smoke in the air, a park host came wandering through our site. Now, this is the kind of maze of a campground where you can and should expect kids and other campers in general to wander through your site, but it was midnight or so and he definitely startled me. We locked eyes and, without a word, just walked on by. I assume he was either sleep walking or a zombie.

My kids both voted we rate this 5 stars, something I’d rarely do for an RV Park, but I am really impressed with what they’ve got going on here so I went with it.

Facilities are awesome: WIFI worked great, showers were clean, Dish washing area available, activities in abundance for kids, shop was stocked with whatever you might need. We even liked the Pizza we ordered from their cook. The people were super friendly and super helpful.

However, it was jam packed. We came in on a Holiday weekend so we expected higher rates, but I'm glad we were pulling a 15 footer and not anything bigger. The spots themselves are really narrow and tight. We were in between National Park Boondocking trips, so this may have compounded on the sensory overload of people and activities. And it was hot...very hot.. that day.

Great for the whole family. You can get a pizza, play mini golf, pickle ball, or watch an evening movie. The camp store has great prices for propane, sweatshirts, t shirts, trailer supplies. The prices are not the usual tourist "gouge them prices." Quite reasonable.

There is a Sprint/T Mobile mini cell tower on the premises. Great T-Mobile coverage.

This is a little highway noise from Hwy 160 below.

Pretty RV park with a pleasant wandering layout. The downside to that layout is that people walk through occupied campsites when headed to bathrooms etc. That was a big problem for me. The campsite is on a busy highway so there is a lot of noise on the adjacent sites. Interior is noticeably quieter. Many sites have trees as did mine. It's a 10 minute ride to Durango which is why I picked this location. My site did not have a sewer hook up but the dump station worked fine. I was there during a holiday weekend and it was very busy with kids and family activity. The campground hosts some activities. The front laundry room become unavailable after a busy weekend as they wash linens from the cabins. There was a second laundry room a short walk away which worked fine. In July I did notice mosquitoes at night.

I have stayed here last year for a week and again this week. I really enjoy this campground and the Durango area. One of things I like most is the lack of street lights all over the campground. I've stayed at many KOAs and other campgrounds that think camping includes being under a street light, which really bothers me because I enjoy the night sky. Well, here you get to see the night sky!

There are a couple downsides, but not enough to downgrade my rating. The highway is right by the campground, so there is noise. But most sites are far enough away that it doesn't bother me. And the sites that are by the road have a nice view, so I probably wouldn't complain there either. The other downside is the cell phone signal, at least at site 209. I am getting 1 bar of verizon and 1-2 bars of ATT. But their wifi works great. I have cut out a few times on Zoom calls, but it doesn't last long and hasn't been an issue. Site 209 is at the very end down the hillside, so I can see why it would be mildly flaky at times. The other minor downside is pulling out of the park. You make a left to go toward downtown Durango and it can be real busy depending on the time of day. Nothing too bad, but sometimes can be annoying.

My site is pretty level, but I've seen others that look a bit hilly. Nothing terrible here either, just something to keep in mind that some sites might need more leveling than others.

Overall, it's a great campground and I love staying here!

Stayed here during the fires (mid-June) and ended up leaving early for better air. Unless it is cold and you need warmth, I would not recommend the sites that are advertised with new landscaping, close to the highway. Its not the noise which you really couldn't hear, but rather there was no shade at these sites. Many of the other sites within the park have shade. It is a lovely park for being an RV park with a creek running thru which was great for the dog to cool off. The employees and hosts are nice and friendly. I didn't use the WiFi but the internet was slow but perhaps due to the conditions in Durango. The pool looked clean and fresh.

Super friendly staff and the back-in sites have better spacing than your average KOA with decent tree separation.

We were in the middle of the park and highway noise was audible all hours of the day even with our windows closed. It was tolerable, but a bummer.

The two fenced in dog areas were a decent size and clean.
