Dover Downs Hotel and Casino RV Park

Built from the ground up by Dover Motorsports, Inc., Dover International Speedway continues to be one of the most unique venues on the NASCAR circuit. The facility is known for its concrete surface, severely banked corners and signature trophies, and is a favorite amongst fans and drivers alike. Dover International Speedway, known as the world’s fastest one-mile concrete oval, has been hosting NASCAR events since it first opened with the inaugural running of the “Mason-Dixon 300” on July 6, 1969. With a unique blend of speeds in excess of 175 mph, and banking of nine degrees on its narrow straightaways and 24 degrees in its sweeping turns, Dover has earned the nickname the “Monster Mile” for its tough nature on both man and machine. In the Monster Mile’s first two years of existence, it hosted just one NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race per year. Since 1971, however, Dover has been home to a spring and fall NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, with the NASCAR Nationwide Series joining the schedule for an annual race in 1982, before becoming a twice-yearly event as well in 1986. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was added during the fall 2000 race weekend, and since then has been a Friday staple of the spring race weekend. The final series to run regularly in Dover, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, first appeared at the track to run a July 1998 race. It was later added as the annual Friday race of the fall weekend beginning in 2001. Situated in the heart of the mid-Atlantic region, the fan friendly venue welcomes thousands of race fans to its 750-acre complex each year. Dover shares the property with the full-service Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, giving race fans the complete vacation destination. Outside of Turn 4 stands the 46-foot-tall Monster Monument at Victory Plaza, the larger-than-life sculpture of Dover’s signature icon Miles the Monster. The fiberglass structure attracts visitors to the track year round and has become a “must-see” stop for tourists coming to Delaware’s capital city.
