“A haunted piece of history”

Dorrington, California is a hideaway in Calaveras County, California. With a population of a little over 600 residents it was initially recognized as Cold Spring Ranch until 1902. Dorrington rests on California State Route 4 and was previously a stopping destination byway of the toll road in the middle of Murphy, California and Ebbetts Pass, frequently noted as a resort for guests to what is now known as Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Dorrington is the place where the celebrated Pony Express formerly rode as well. The county is filled with natural wonders and a remarkable past. Cold Springs Ranch was the original name of this small wonder. The name changed when the post office was inaugurated in 1902. Ironically the name Dorrington came about for the reason that it was the initial post master’s wife maiden name. The post office was disbanded in 1919, re-opened in 1921 and shut-down permanently in 1934. The California Gold Rush, which took place in the mid 1800s, attracted an incursion of people looking for opportunity. Currently, there are recreational prospects annually and during all seasons. In addition, Dorrington is domicile to the second largest Sugar Pine on the planet. It measures 32 feet around and 220 feet high. Dorrington is placed far above the Sierra Gold Country, it’s so beautiful it’s hard to walk away. Nature abounds with beautiful flowers that spring into bloom while the summers are invigorating, the fall of multi-colored leaves is impressive and the winter snowfall is enchanting. The magnificence of gigantic pines, the intimate chalets with freshly placed flowers, the enjoyment and relaxation of sitting near the fireplace while taking in the astounding views of the neighboring mountains is what visitors have to look forward to and what many experience in Dorrington, California. There are charming cottages to reside and rest your head like the lovely Dorrington Inn. Believed to be haunted by the ghost of Rebecca Dorrington Gardner the original mistress of the hotel. People say that she roams the hallways of the hotel turning lights on and off, opening and closing doors and moving items. People also believe there are other ghosts, including the ghosts of children that people claim to hear laughing.
