Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 03, 2021Named for the winter stopover used by Mormon emigrants heading westward, Mormon Island State Recreation Area still offers comfort and conveniences to campers and other travelers on Interstate 80, as part of Nebraska's unique "Chain of Lakes."Mormon Island SRA hosts a spectacular gathering each spring, as hundreds of thousands of sandhill cranes stop to rest and pursue their courtship rituals. The world's largest concentration of these magnificent birds draws thousands of visitors to the region every year.
Situated right off of the interstate, it was a nice place to stop on our way through Nebraska. We liked that each site had electricity and access to water and showers.
Showers were spacious and had fine pressure but stalls had spiders.
Interstate noise made it difficult for some of us to sleep but didn’t bother others.

This park is located right off I80. Was very noisy even at night. The host was not at the booth at check in time so had to wing it to find spot for our rig. The pamphlet showing first come sights is so small and does not show all non reserve sights. We took a pull through with 50A. Cost $35 plus $8 car fee that we didn’t even unhook. I will stay at a private park with full hookup for that cost. Just passing through Nebraska.

I am traveling west and needed a place just to sleep the nite at. This was right off the Hwy 80, so confident. One other camper present. Electric on, snow on the ground, quiet, yet near to food/gas. Would like to stop again when I have more time.

Thee camping costs... tents only $15, electric only $25, delux (near lake with power) $35... must pay $6 ( residence fee) or $8 (non-residence fee) as well. Clean bathrooms, showers(no coins), swimming, fishing, playground, boating, etc... very nice all level sites good for big rigs. Only bummer is the constant highway noise.

Good facility at a decent price, $25 for electric plus $8 non-resident entrance fee. Lots of road noise from I-80, not a problem when inside the RV but really took away from the outdoor experience.

Spacious sites and the interstate noise didn't bother us but too cold to be outside much. Right off I80 was our objective. Winter rates at $20 plus $8 fee was way too much for a winter site with electricity but no water. Typical rate is $25+8. Still too much for this site

Nice stay when passing through. Limited shade at sites. Small and quiet state park near the interstate with a couple ponds. Saw a beaver in the large pond. Verizon did not work well but T-Mobile did. Bathrooms were ok - sites were well maintained. Would stay one or two nights again if passing through.

This was a great stopover and a beautiful campground with walking and biking paths and a beautiful lake with a beach. Electric and water with a dump station and a good amount of privacy depending on where you book. We arrived and were able to pick our own site just across from the beach.

Happy to find winter camping near I80 but the $5 winter discount was inadequate for the services offered. The bathrooms were closed but we were able to dump but water was shut off. Didn’t mind paying the camping fee, however we also had to pay a $12 park entry fee which is ridiculous for a park beside the highway in January. Even in summer, that is highway robbery for what this park has to offer. Park is clean and sites reasonably spaced but the highway is very loud
