“one beautiful ghost town”
What once was a small, isolated mining town in the early 1900's has become a stunning, romantic resort. It took about 7 years to restore the old buildings and put in modern ammenities, but it was well worth the effort. Dunton Hot Springs resort is nestled in an alpine valley of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado where it boasts a painstakingly beautiful view from the resort’s log cabins. While staying there you'll be surrounded by mountain views, waterfalls and, of course, the main attraction: the hot springs. The hot springs are like natural hot tubs, except better because they're not festering petri dishes of bacteria. Natural hot springs are packed full of minerals that are great for your skin, some even say have spiritual healing powers as well. But even if you don’t buy into that, it’s hard to deny that soaking in a mineral filled bath with silent snow capped mountains surrounding you would be the ultimate relaxation. However, Dunton Hot Springs doesn’t just offer you a relaxing get away, but also a slew of wild adventures. Since they’re smack dab in the middle of tons of rugged Wild West wilderness, there's something for everyone. They range from horseback riding, to snow shoeing, to river rafting, to mountain biking- the possibilities are really endless. Adventure literally is at your doorstep! As for dining and drinking, Dunton Hot Springs definitely delivers! Since it was an old mining town they restored some of the original buildings, including the old saloon! The Dunton Hot Springs Saloon still has a lot of the original fixtures like the wooden bar where Butch Cassidy’s monikers are carved…pretty unreal! The Dance Hall next door can be rented out for events as well (they have a rustic wooden chapel which is perfect for wedding ceremonies). Not to mention their food, which is decadent. Plus, the kitchen is open, so you can watch them prep the day's meal-- or even pitch in, pioneer-style. -Roadtrippers We have brought a beautiful, historic corner of Colorado back to life. Just across the mountain from Telluride, Dunton Hot Springs Resort is a romantic ghost town, set in an extraordinary alpine valley. Cresto Ranch is its newest addition just 4 miles downriver and hosts 8 luxury tents with en-suite bathrooms. Our resorts offer a variety of day and overnight packages, and the entire town or ranch can be rented exclusively for corporate retreats, family reunions and weddings. This perfectly restored ghost town thrives on contradictions; hand-hewn log cabins exquisitely furnished, a life-worn saloon serving food of startling quality, lung torturing trails followed by pampering massages, sensuous hot springs beneath shimmering snow banks. Free of cell phones, this romantic old mining town still provides high speed wireless internet access in every cabin and video conferencing in our dance hall to the comforting sound of a tumbling waterfall.
I love this place. Not only have they restored an entire ghost town, but they've also turned it into a picture-perfect luxury resort in the process. Plus, they really encourage you to immerse yourself in the experience fully, from the activities they offer to the chance to pitch in and help cook a meal. Even if you never have the opportunity to stay here, that's worth admiring, in my opinion.
Simply gorgeous! A bit pricey, but man, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Stunning views and you will be pampered from the minute you arrive.
