“offers a great view of the rock monolith”
Devils Tower National Monument, named a "top 10 ecotourism destination," is America's first national monument. The monument was established in 1906 by Teddy Roosevelt. Nestled on the banks of the Belle Fourche River in the beautiful Black Hills of Wyoming, this KOA campground lies in the shadow of Devils Tower. Enjoy the nightly hayride through the historic Campstool Ranch, one of the oldest ranches in Wyoming. The movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, was filmed on - site in 1976, and it is shown nightly at the campground. This KOA offers a full-service restaurant, an extensive gift shop and a Sweet Shoppe that features legendary fudge and hand-dipped ice cream. Open May 15 - October 15 (depending on snow conditions, please call for off-season reservations). Pool: June 1 - September 1. Max pull thru: 70 feet. Your hosts: the Driskill family.
We stayed for a night at this KOA after visiting Devil's Tower. The staff were friendly and helpful, the sites were level (all with spectacular views of the tower), the utilities all worked as expected, and they show Close Encounters on the big screen under the stars every night. Highly recommended.
Spent two nights here. Cost $61.00 a night without discount, $55.00 with discount. The location was fabulous. We had a close encounter with the tower of our own! The staff was great. WiFi was good. They are installing a premium WiFi which will be ready next season. They have no cable but did provide satellite cord. Which we didn’t use. The roads were gravel, the sights had well maintained grassy areas with many mature shade trees. There was also a nice outdoor pool. All in all a nice looking KOA. I would stay here again.
I spent May 27 - May 30 (Memorial Day) at Devils Tower KOA. I want to start by thanking the owners and staff for providing a wonderful experience in an amazing location. Every part of our vacation was just made that much better by all their efforts. The camp store is not only well supplied with trinkets and souvenirs it also has a wide variety of items that you may have forgotten or didn't decide you needed until you got there and the prices are really good. I've stayed at several other KOAs and campgrounds in general all over the U.S. and between the views, the accommodation and most definitely the staff this is hands down the best one yet. It is immediately outside of the park entrance and the Devils Tower Monument Visitor's Center is a two-three mile walk away and then another mile to walk around the base of the tower. The camp has a full playground and pool, carriage rides and they show the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" almost every night with the Tower behind the screen. I'm already looking at going back there in September. I can't recommend staying here strongly enough. Thank you all and we'll certainly be back!
The view was great…. But the cabin was crap. It was dirty. There were sharp screws poking out every where. I was told they had a restaurant but wasn’t told they were closed the days we booked. We were also not informed there was a fire ban and made it very difficult to eat with no restaurant and no fire. The staff is suuuuuper short and that was very frustrating. They were also installing a fence RIGHT behind our cabin. Banging for hours right during babes nap time. The kids were excited to hear about the Hay rides and miniature golf, only to find out both cost extra $$$$. Then the final disappointment…. They couldn’t get the movie to play at the end of the night. Most expensive stay and the most disappointing out of all the KOA’s we’ve stayed at.
Fabulous spot! The owners are lovely and so helpful! Best views!
Our second time and it keeps getting better. Tons of amenities and it looks like they’re building a brand new pool (old one is still good to use). We love shopping at the trading post, camp store and ice cream shop, but our favorite thing has to be the trail up to Devils Tower from the campground (about 4.5 miles if you include circling the base which is flat and paved) AND watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind outside with the tower in the background. Such a magical place! Can’t wait to be back!!
Great view and full hookups, but, pool with no water in it (a couple of young guys were doing a patch job), miniature golf that’s a wreck, a cafe that we took one look at and left. So much potential but… what can I say, KOA needs to look into their parks!
Camp staff was great. Level sites, great view. We only stayed overnight but everything was decent. (One set of holier than thou campers left a bad taste but that's hardly the camp grounds fault.) Literally right outside the gate to Devil's Tower. We enjoyed the movie even though we stayed in the off season.
We were highly disappointed in this location for a number of reasons. I rated it too because the view is amazing and well worth the drive, but if there's a place you can stay close to it you may want to consider doing that instead of staying here. The restaurant was out of potatoes, blue cheese dressing, carbonation for the soda,, Plus at one point they ran out of ice and I had to go to the ice cream stand to get more ice for my drink. The staff is friendly, but not very helpful. The showers were disgusting with hair in the corners and the drains. The movie they advertise Close Encounters of the Third Kind starts by them telling us when the movies over please turn off the television and close the shutters on the TV, which would be okay except for the fact the movie quit three or four times while you're watching it and in the end we couldn't even finish the movie that they advertise as part of one of the features they show every single night. There was no staff person around to assist us. I've been very impressed with all of the KOA Campgrounds we have stayed at until this one. Again the view is breathtaking and well worth the trip to see it, but consider staying someplace else. Please excuse any grammatical errors as I'm using voice text to do this rather than typing it out.
I called Info @ 307-467-5395 ! the price for a tent spot is $28.75 plus tax for two people they add more for each additional person. Wow seems high to me or iI missing something? GREAT VIEW though!!!
